Sarah & Emma welcome a canine handler who has shown strength and resilience for over a decade fighting for her rights and to be able to continue her passion for working dogs. Autumn Schlimmer joined the Navy in 2010, excited about her dream career and her speedy entrance in to K9, it soon became a nightmare. After only a few months at her first posting, Autumn had her career ripped out from underneath her after someone falsely accused her of a crime.
After months of blind accusations, she was isolated, bullied, had her K9 taken from her and even made to dye her hair despite it being her natural hair color. The Navy then forced Autumn out of her career with no evidence, no paperwork and no support. Autumn later took on the fight to receive a proper discharge, appeal her service records and still be able to work in the canine industry. Today Autumn has had some wins (with more to come) but the biggest being that she is a contract dog handler doing what makes her happy.
Listen in to hear all about Autumns story of injustice and triumphs.
