To make this a bi-lingual podcast, we recorded this bonus episode with Ken Owens in our native Welsh language. Rugby fans will know Ken as a tough hooker, a strong leader - and one of the most passionate singers of an anthem in the game!
Roedd yn bleser recordio hyn yn Gymraeg, gyda rhywun sy'n gwneud cymaint dros yr iaith Gymraeg
Richard Barrington - or Baz, as he is affectionately known - is an English rugby player, for Saracens. Perhaps not the most well-known or glamorous of players within the squad, but an extremely valuable one, playing his part in securing three European Cups, four Premiership titles and the Anglo-Welsh Cup in five seasons.
He is perhaps most well-known for leading the post-match celebrations in the changing rooms - and you can sense a familiar theme within this chat about epic sing-songs in glamorous locations around the world
In this episode, we are chatting to former England cricketer Mark Butcher. Not only did Mark have a very successful cricket career for both Surrey and England, but he is also a very talented musician and recently released his second album, called Now Playing.
His passion for music is clear to see from this episode - we cover off everything from his new album, to touring the West Indies in the 90's, playing the guitar in the changing rooms at the MCG and the tragic story about his first ever single being recorded.
As well as listening to this podcast, you can listen to Mark's music here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4Ybcf4KVr9dAYy01kVt9Bm?si=hzx9IiGSR-iz8qKvBnqQkw
Professor Greg Whyte OBE is a 2x Olympian, having competed for GB in the Modern Pentathlon. He is now one of the leading sports scientists in the UK, working with several athletes across multiple sports, as well as supporting many celebrities on challenges for Sport Relief.
We speak to Greg more from the perspective of a coach as opposed to the athlete - giving a very interesting insight into the scientific and physiological affects that music has on sport.
This is also the most scenic podcast we've ever recorded - taking place on the banks of the river Thames in Marlow, in glorious sunshine!
This episode features Great Britain’s greatest ever female skier Chemmy Alcott, who has competed in an incredible 4 Winter Olympics and 7 World Championships. Chemmy talks to us about her career and the amazing work she has done for charity. We also of course chat about all sorts of music-related things…..from controlling her emotions pre-race – to clubbing in Ibiza - to singing on stage at Glastonbury, which I’m sure not many sports stars can lay claim to
In an effort to make this a bi-lingual podcast, we recorded a bonus episode with Brett in our native Welsh language. We in Wales are blessed with our own language and it was a pleasure to record this with Brett in Welsh
Mae Brett yn cefnogwr mawr o'r iaith Gymraeg - ac roedd e'n bleser i recordio'r podcast hyn yn ddwyieithog
Brett Johns is a Welsh MMA fighter. After winning a world championship in the Cage Warrior promotion, he entered the UFC in 2016, boasting an impressive record of 16-2. We talk to Brett about his love of football, his selection of a welsh language folk song for the ring entrance to one of his biggest fights - and his karaoke ability!
We chat to Welsh rugby player Jamie Roberts, whilst he was playing for Bath in January 2020. We hear about his super-impressive career both on and off the pitch - and perhaps the biggest achievement of all - playing live on stage with a global rock band - Twice!
In this episode, we chat to Olympic gold medallist Dani Rowe. Dani won gold at London 2012 in the Team Pursuit alongside Laura Kenny and Joanna Roswell. Dani has recently retired from professional cycling, so we get to hear from her on what she’s up to these days and the plans for the future, as well as how important music was for her career. She also takes this opportunity to throw one of her former team-mates under the bus, who apparently had some questionable pre-race music choices!
This was the very first episode that we recorded – with ex-England rugby star Olly Barkley.
Olly and I went to school together, so it was nice to record the first episode with a familiar voice and I remember from the school days that Olly was a bit of a tastemaker for music – introducing the rest of us to all these cool American bands that at the time we had never heard of before.
So I’m curious to dig into how on earth a young lad from Cornwall became such a tastemaker for music in those days
And like many other ex-professional sportspeople, in their quest to remain cool, Olly fancies himself as a bit of a DJ! So we’ll dig into that a little bit too
