The Tracklist

We’re rewinding to 1986 for a look at Pretty in Pink, one of the most influential teen films of the decade—and its unforgettable soundtrack. From The Psychedelic Furs and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark to Echo & the Bunnymen, we unpack how this New Wave-heavy tracklist elevated the film’s emotional core and rewrote the rules of music supervision. A love letter to heartbreak, eyeliner, and synths.

This week on The Tracklist, we're dancing our way through the emotional rollercoaster of David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook. From Stevie Wonder to The White Stripes, this eclectic, heartfelt soundtrack mirrors the film’s messy, beautiful journey through love, loss, and second chances.

We break down how the music supports the emotional arcs of Pat and Tiffany, highlight key tracks that define the film’s tone, and debate whether "My Cherie Amour" is the most tragically perfect song cue of the decade.

This week on The Tracklist, we dive headfirst into the film that some people swear is a cult classic … and others (hi, Daron 👋) swear at. That’s right — we’re talking Empire Records (1995).

With a soundtrack that slaps harder than the film’s Rotten Tomatoes critic score (a tragic 35%), Chris (@chrissaunders_music) and Daron (@thedaronjenkins) dissect why the music might be the only thing holding this Gen X rollercoaster together. From Gin Blossoms to the great “Rex Manning Day” debate, we’re breaking down the hits, the misses, and the moments that made this movie a cult fave — even if the plot is messier than a Record Store Day sale.
