For building an Amazing Life one thing that cripples me is the belief that I am only as good as the things I produce. This is a belief that many of our society has adopted. This belief that my production is equal to my worth is a horrific lie. How does it show up in your life? This hazardous statement hides us from our true identity and stops us from achieving our greatness. This belief then colors our entire life and everything that happens to us is viewed through this lens. Do you remember when you first started to believe this shameful lie?
The way it affected me was when my hard work paid off in less that I expected it deceived me into taking it personally. When my work paid more than I expected I felt high, I felt acceptable and it felt good, but the problem was two fold. One problem was more often the outcome was less than what I was expecting. The second searing problem was that my expectations of what I wanted kept increasing making it more challenging to meet those goals. This plagued my ability to produce the outcome I desired. I was constantly letting things that were outside me dictate how I felt about myself. This plummeted my self confidence and left me frustrated and unhappy. This leads to a roller coaster of feelings, How often have you gone through this devastating cycle?
We are feeling beings. As humans we often move very quickly from one feeling to another. I’m sure you have had the mind blowing experience of feeling blissful one moment and wounded the next. The feelings that you have are attached to beliefs and thoughts that you entertain. We have millions of thoughts each day, many of them are automatic. These thoughts if left unchecked will lead to beliefs, those beliefs magically turn into feelings and then the feelings direct more of the automatic thoughts. Many people establish their feelings and try to control them. Often what happens is they bury the negative feelings and cover them up. Once buried those emotions will live on forever and we will poison our experience of the entire world as we experience it through those buried emotions.
Emotions are often like a frozen pond. The emotion on top is the one that you are concentrating on and the one you feel consciously. Ice can be a great place to skate or ride a snowmobile. It can be very exciting and happy on top of the ice. A layer of ice is also a great insulator. It can be covering all the other feelings you have holding them down and keeping them alive. But then the emotions under that ice may be 20 or more feet deep and they are kept much warmer than the surrounding temp as they are insulated by that ice. The ice can break under many different circumstances allowing you to fall in, get stuck in your emotions and then you can drown in those negative feelings that have been buried. If you have these feelings of production equals worth, your feelings can be the water under the ice. When the ice breaks it can drown you or those close to you. If you deal with those emotions they will dissipate and not be an issue. We have been over many tools to deal with your emotions, Setup a time to talk with me and we can find ways to overcome the emotions that you have buried.
