we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O come, let us sing to the Lord;*
let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,*
and his hands have molded the dry land.

You once spoke in a vision to your saint, and said: *
“I have bestowed help to one who is mighty;
I have exalted one chosen from the people.
I have found David, my servant; *
with my holy oil I have anointed him,
my hand shall hold him fast; *
my arm also shall strengthen him.
The enemy shall not outwit him; *
nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
I will crush his foes before his face *
and strike down those who hate him.
My faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him, *
and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
I will set his hand over the sea *
and his right hand over the rivers.
He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, *
my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’
And I will make him the firstborn, *
the highest of the kings of the earth.
My mercy I will keep for him forever, *
and my covenant shall stand firm with him.
His seed I will make to endure forever *
and his throne as the days of the heavens.
If his children forsake my law *
and do not walk in my judgments,
if they violate my statutes *
and do not keep my commandments,
Then I will visit their transgression with the rod *
and their iniquity with stripes,
but I will not remove my mercy from him *
nor be false to my faithfulness.
I will not violate my covenant *
nor alter the word that went forth from my lips.
Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; *
I will not lie to David.
His seed shall endure forever, *
and his throne as the sun before me.
Like the moon it shall be established forever, *
a faithful witness in the skies.”
But you have cast off and rejected; *
you have turned away the face of your anointed.
You have rejected the covenant of your servant; *
you have defiled his crown to the ground.
You have broken down all his walls; *
and made his strongholds a ruin.
All who pass by plunder him; *
he has become the scorn of his neighbors.
You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; *
you have made all his enemies rejoice.
You have also turned back the edge of his sword, *
and you have not sustained him in battle.
You have made his splendor to cease *
and cast his throne to the ground.
You have cut short the days of his youth; *
you have covered him with shame.
How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? *
How long will your wrath burn like fire?
Remember how short my lifetime is. *
For futility have you created all the children of man?
What man can live and never see death? *
Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol?
Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, *
which in your faithfulness you swore to David?
Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked, *
how I bear in my heart the reproach of all the many nations,
with which your enemies have taunted, O LORD, *
with which they mock the footsteps of your anointed.
Blessed be the LORD forevermore. *

Esther 5
5 On the third day Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king’s palace, in front of the king’s quarters, while the king was sitting on his royal throne inside the throne room opposite the entrance to the palace. 2 And when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, she won favor in his sight, and he held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. Then Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter. 3 And the king said to her, “What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you, even to the half of my kingdom.” 4 And Esther said, “If it please the king, let the king and Haman come today to a feast that I have prepared for the king.” 5 Then the king said, “Bring Haman quickly, so that we may do as Esther has asked.” So the king and Haman came to the feast that Esther had prepared. 6 And as they were drinking wine after the feast, the king said to Esther, “What is your wish? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Even to the half of my kingdom, it shall be fulfilled.” 7 Then Esther answered, “My wish and my request is: 8 If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my wish and fulfill my request, let the king and Haman come to the feast that I will prepare for them, and tomorrow I will do as the king has said.”
9 And Haman went out that day joyful and glad of heart. But when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he neither rose nor trembled before him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai. 10 Nevertheless, Haman restrained himself and went home, and he sent and brought his friends and his wife Zeresh. 11 And Haman recounted to them the splendor of his riches, the number of his sons, all the promotions with which the king had honored him, and how he had advanced him above the officials and the servants of the king. 12 Then Haman said, “Even Queen Esther let no one but me come with the king to the feast she prepared. And tomorrow also I am invited by her together with the king. 13 Yet all this is worth nothing to me, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.” 14 Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Let a gallows fifty cubits high be made, and in the morning tell the king to have Mordecai hanged upon it. Then go joyfully with the king to the feast.” This idea pleased Haman, and he had the gallows made.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;*
he has come to his people and set them free.

2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge—6 even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you—7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”
20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
