In this episode, we will look at the “T” in TULIP which stands for Total Depravity. The doctrine of total depravity or radical corruption is meant to flatten us. It forces us to realize the depth of our depravity and thus the desperation of our need. From this place, we like the tax collector in Luke 18 cry out, “Lord, be merciful to me a sinner!”

many Christians today believe that they are “at the center of the universe” and that all of life has been designed to revolve around them. We are certainly born with a “bent” on self but when we are hearing preaching coming from inside the church that suggests that we are so important, so vital to the plan of God that HE ACTUALLY EXISTS FOR US and that we are at the center of the theological universe and God existence is a means to enhance us and our life, we are in desperate need of correction.

It has been said that if you believe the “T” in TULIP, then all the other letters are a necessary outworking of that logic because if man is truly unable to do anything within himself to get to God, then if a man is to gets to God, God must do the decisive work to make it so. The first part of this work of God, is the second letter in our acrostic “U” standing for Unconditional Election.
