Would You Look at Her?!

(The) Truman Show'd Us

Listen Later

The Truman Show. What more can I say? A truly iconic film that told such an interesting story that we've ironically ended up seeing ourselves live everyday. In an age where social media is ever-present and everything we do can end up being recorded online for anyone to see at the drop of a hat, The Truman Show seems silly now, but it really isn't. But what makes this film so dynamic, interesting, and upheld almost twenty-something years later is the casting. But I have to ask, is Jim Carrey really everybody's favourite choice for Truman? Does he live up to the hype that this film is given? Is Jim Carrey's reputation as a funny-guy forcing too much, or does it prove that he's more than just giving the audience some laughs?

Join me as I discuss Jim Carrey's performance as the titular Truman Burbank, and determine if his performance as this naive, yet humble man is really all that great, and up to par, or if its just short of fantastic. Are there moments where I feel like Truman should've been played by someone else? Stick around. As usual, stay tuned to the end of the episode and join me as I play 'Cast It or Pass It' and decide if Jim Carrey should stay, or if he should go.
