Given enough time, corruption leads to death. Sardis is the spiritually dead church, a Dead Church Walking, which Jesus addresses in Revelation 3:1-6. As a spiritual salvage operation, Jesus commands them to find what’s still alive and nurture it. On the other hand, Jesus commends the Philadelphia congregation for their outstanding life and faithfulness. What a contrast!

Although Jesus’ messages to the churches in Asia Minor were for that day and what was coming their way, His messages continue to ring to our day. In Revelation 2:18-29, Jesus convicts Thyatira as the corrupt church that tolerated sin. The message to us is, “Are we slowly being corrupted by tolerating sin in our lives?”
