I first heard of Gabe Davies back in 2000 when I started at Quiksilver, and these English clients of mine kept dropping his name.
We surfed with Gabe on the weekend, Gabe this, Gabe that. He was and still is one of those who leave impressions on people. We soon became acquainted thanks to the good friends we had in common, and from there, we became friends, as he was also living in Hossegor.
A talented surfer with a beautiful style and a guy that charged. Gabe comes from the unlikely surfing city of Newcastle on the northeastern coast of Mother England, where only the beer is colder and browner than the local slabs offer.
A pioneer of the northwestern coast of Ireland who, along with Richie Fitzgerald, surfed waves that would become iconic in our modern era.
After a long pro career with Quiksilver, Gabe left the mountain and the wave and joined Patagonia, which has become a match made in heaven.
In this episode, we talk about learning to surf in water that will freeze the balls off a brass monkey, the cleaner production of wetsuits, and even his dog joining in for a bark.
