It comes as no surprise that many people suffer from stress. In a recent Canadian survey, about one-quarter of Canadians said that they feel somewhat stressed or extremely stressed on a daily basis. These statistics are probably similar in the church as well. Often, many pastors will use Philippians 4:4-9 to give a Christian perspective on how to deal with stressful situations. But what does Paul mean by "do not be anxious about anything?" Is it possible for Christians to develop an attitude where they will never be plagued by anxiety? Or is this just wishful thing?
In this two-part series, Pastor Nathan Nadeau gives the historical context of Paul's letter to the church at Philippi, allowing us to understand Philippians 4 better once viewed within the context of the whole letter.

In the early 90s, the Vineyard movement was known for its "supposed" outpouring of the Holy Spirit on people that attended their church meetings. Attendees were known to burst out in uncontrollable laughter, start growling, bark like dogs, dancing, twitching, and falling on the floor in a trancelike state for hours. All these manifestations were attributed to the work of the Holy Spirit. The Vineyard church began to expand rapidly and received much media attention. At the same time, it received its fair share of criticism from other Christians for embracing practices that were not condoned in the Bible. One key member of the Vineyard church, Paul Gowdy, began to have a change of heart and could not reconcile what he was seeing happening in the church with what he was reading in the Bible. In the episode, Paul shares his experiences being in the Vineyard church and why he decided he needed to leave it.
Christianity was once the pillar and foundation of western civilization. Historically, Christianity was known for its role in building universities and hospitals. It also had a major influence on politics, philosophy, and science, etc. Sadly, Christianity is now perceived as the enemy of all things progressive. In this episode, Dr. Tony Costa discusses the need for churches to embrace Christian apologetics in order to adequately set forth rational arguments in defense of the Christian faith. If the church refuses to go this route, they will find themselves floundering or in a position of compromise. In this episode, Carlos Paul, professor of Theology and Chaplain of African Christian University, discusses his move from Toronto Canada to Zambia. With a desire to reach Zambians with the gospel, Carlos, prompted by God, left the luxuries of a first world county to live in the austerity of another country with his young family.
