  • EP 101: The Mysterious Oil Refinery Fires: Accident or Sabotage?

This is episode 101 of The Truth Tank.

Oil refineries around the world have gone up in flames. From Australia's Geelong refinery to major incidents in Louisiana and Mexico, and a wave of refinery fires and drone strikes across Russia, the world’s fuel infrastructure appears to be under pressure.

    But why?

Are these fires simply the result of ageing facilities, poor maintenance, harsh operating conditions and machinery being pushed beyond its limits during a period of global energy uncertainty? Or is there something more sinister at play?

In this episode of Truth Tank, I investigate refinery fires one by one, examining the evidence behind each incident and asking whether a genuine pattern exists or whether our minds are filling in the gaps through pattern recognition. We explore the Russian refinery attacks and the growing normalisation of drone strikes against energy infrastructure, the strategic role of economic sabotage during wartime, and just how much damage has been inflicted on Russia's refining capacity.

The investigation then turns to Iran, where refinery fires sit at the intersection of ageing infrastructure, sanctions, harsh operating conditions and a documented history of sabotage. From the Abadan refinery—one of the oldest operating refineries in the world—to the legacy of the Stuxnet cyberattack, Iran presents a compelling case study in how difficult it can be to distinguish accident from deliberate interference.

Along the way, I discuss the broader state of the world in 2026, the federal budget, growing geopolitical instability, and the uncomfortable reality that interconnected events in a viral, hyper-connected world can easily create the impression of a larger conspiracy.

But what if the scarier possibility isn't sabotage?

What if the global fuel system is simply ageing, fragile and struggling to recover from the shocks of recent years?

At the same time, can we honestly rule out sabotage entirely? Who stands to benefit when critical infrastructure fails? In times of uncertainty, chaos creates opportunity.

This episode examines both sides of the argument and asks a simple question:

Are the refinery fires of 2026 the result of accident, pressure and neglect—or are we witnessing something far more deliberate?

  • EP 100: Courage Under Trial: The Case Of Ben Robert Smith

This is episode 100 of The Truth Tank

In this episode, we examine the case surrounding Ben Roberts-Smith — from his early SAS career and Victoria Cross action through to the allegations, investigations and legal battles that would later define public perception of him.

But this episode is not simply a biography or a retelling of accusations.

At its core, this is an examination of evidence, memory and reconstruction.

Many SAS missions were never publicly documented in complete detail, meaning years later investigators, journalists, courts and soldiers themselves were forced to piece together fragmented accounts of chaotic combat events from photographs, partial reports, second and third-hand testimony, fading memories and differing perspectives of the same incidents.

    No single unified account exists.

Instead, events like Whiskey 108, the death of Ali Jan and the cliff incident have been reconstructed piece by piece more than a decade after they happened — often with conflicting interpretations depending on who witnessed what, where they were standing, what they remembered and what was recorded.

We break down the differing evidence types involved in the case, the role of the Brereton Report, the media’s influence on public perception, and the wider questions surrounding leadership, institutional responsibility and the impossible challenge of reconstructing truth from fractured battlefield memories years after the war ended.

This is a story about war, perspective, media narratives and the difficulty of determining what really happened when the full picture may no longer exist. At the centre of this case is a man shaped by one system, and judged by another.

  • EP 99: The Trump Assassination Attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner

This is Episode 99 of The Truth Tank

Another alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Conflicting reports, strange details, unanswered questions and a venue with a violent history.

In this episode, The Truth Tank breaks down the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner attack attempt at the Washington Hilton — the same hotel forever tied to the 1981 Reagan shooting. Tank examines how the night unfolded, the weapons used by Cole Thomas Allen, the layers of security surrounding the event and how those protections may have failed.

The episode explores the confusion and contradictions surrounding the case, the psychology of political security, conspiracy theories already spreading online and the growing atmosphere of political violence in America.

    The episode also covers:

    • The chaotic first hours after news of the incident broke
    • The challenges of securing an active hotel during a high-profile political event
    • The Washington Hilton’s long violent history
    • The eerie similarities between the Trump and Reagan incidents
    • Differing witness accounts and confusion over how many shots were fired
    • Questions surrounding whether Cole Thomas Allen even discharged his weapon
    • Why the alleged attacker was taken alive
    • What security got right — and where things may have gone wrong
    • Whether familiarity with the venue created a false sense of security
    • The limits of “acceptable risk” when protecting political figures
    • Who Cole Thomas Allen is, where he came from and his possible motivations
    • Who ultimately bears responsibility for the breach
    • Tank’s conspiracy theories and analysis of the stranger elements of the case
    • Whether the attack could have been staged — and why people believe that
    • The danger of political extremism and people taking the law into their own hands

Alongside the breakdown, speculation and conspiratorial flavour, this episode explores a larger question:

What happens when political violence, media spectacle and public distrust all collide at the same moment?

  • EP 98: The Academy Awards 2026: Ding Dong, Oscars Dead 5

This is episode 98 of The Truth Tank

The Academy Awards 2026: Ding Dong, Oscar’s Dead 5

Hollywood’s biggest night is back… but does anybody actually care anymore?

In the fifth annual Ding Dong, Oscar’s Dead episode, The Truth Tank dives headfirst into the 2026 Academy Awards — breaking down the winners, losers, controversies, cringe moments, political messaging, celebrity absurdity and the growing irrelevance of the Oscars in a world dominated by streaming, gaming, TikTok attention spans and collapsing monoculture.

Tank reviews the biggest films and performances of the year while asking whether the Academy is slowly losing its grip on culture itself. From Netflix normalisation and foreign film dominance to vertical video, movies watched on phones and the death of the theatrical experience, this episode explores what the Oscars now represent in an era where Hollywood no longer controls entertainment the way it once did.

    The episode also covers:
    • The opening skit controversy and Hollywood political correctness
    • Celebrity culture, elite hypocrisy and the growing distrust of Hollywood
    • The strange symbolism, messaging and recurring patterns Tank noticed throughout the ceremony
    • The debate over foreign films competing for both Best International Feature and Best Picture
    • Whether Sinners was really an “Oscar film”
    • The legacy of The Dark Knight snub and genre bias within the Academy
    • Frankenstein’s technical wins
    • The fake flashlight ad
    • Sean Penn vs Bono and why Penn was mysteriously absent
    • Pedro Pascal’s fashion choices
    • Nicole Kidman’s increasingly frozen facial expressions
    • Ryan Coogler’s controversial gestures during the show
    • Javier Bardem’s brave stance
    • Streaming’s complete takeover of the Academy Awards
    • Whether Paul Thomas Anderson received a career “apology Oscar”
    • Tank’s personal picks for the actors, directors and films that should have been nominated but weren’t

Alongside the laughs, satire and conspiratorial flavour, this episode digs into the larger question hanging over modern Hollywood:

What happens when the institution that once defined global culture becomes just another piece of content fighting for attention online?

The Oscars may still hand out gold statues… but the cultural power behind them is fading fast.

  • EP 97: The Iran Conflict: Oil, Bread & Circus Part: 2

This is episode 97 of The Truth Tank.

The Iran Conflict: Oil, Bread & Circus PT.2

Fuel doesn’t just power the world — it prices it.

In Part 2, we pull apart the invisible system behind modern oil: why petrol prices spike even when the crude was bought months ago, who actually shapes the cost at the pump, and why prices rarely return to where they once were.

We trace the journey from global benchmarks and parity pricing to the quiet collapse of Australia’s refining industry — where local production gave way to offshore dependency. Oil leaves the country, gets refined overseas, then returns home at a higher price stamped by global risk.

But this isn’t just about fuel. It’s about fragility.

From diesel-powered food supply chains to fertiliser production and just-in-time logistics, we explore what happens when the system tightens — and how quickly modern comfort depends on uninterrupted movement.

Australia sits inside a global structure it doesn’t fully control: reliant on foreign refineries, exposed shipping lanes, and minimal strategic reserves. On paper, the system works. In reality, it assumes nothing breaks. That’s why you’re not paying for yesterday’s fuel — you’re paying for today’s fear..

This episode asks a simple question:

    What happens when it does?

  • EP 96: Project Hail Mary Review: Ryan, Rocky, a Rollercoaster of Emotion & the Science Behind the Film

This is episode 96 of The Truth Tank.

What happens when a sci-fi film delivers both hard science and a genuine emotional punch?

In this episode, Tank dives into a full breakdown of Project Hail Mary — from the standout performance of Ryan Gosling and his range as an actor, to the unexpected emotional core that hits far harder than you’d expect.

At the heart of the film is Rocky — one of the most unique alien characters in modern sci-fi. Despite having no traditional face or expressions, Rocky’s design, personality, and chemistry with Grace create something rare: a character that feels deeply human. Tank explores why Rocky resinates so well, how his personality reflects the best parts of humanity, and why their first contact scene stands out as one of the film’s defining moments.

This episode also breaks down the science behind the story, including:

    • Whether systems like Tau Ceti and 40 Eridani A actually exist
    • The real science behind interstellar travel, time dilation, and extremophile life
    • Whether bacteria or life could realistically spread between planets
    • How the film compares scientifically to The Martian and Interstellar

    Tank also explores:

    • The emotional rollercoaster of the film — and why it hits unexpectedly hard
    • The balance between humor and emotion in the directing and performances
    • The VFX vs practical design behind Rocky and why it works
    • Comparisons to classic first-contact storytelling like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
    • The plan to save both planets — and the stakes behind it

    And yes… Tank cried.

From hard science to first contact, from humor to heartbreak, Project Hail Mary proves that great sci-fi isn’t just about ideas — it’s about connection.

Because at its core, this story asks one simple question:

Could there be something — or someone — out there?

This is episode 95 of The Truth Tank

The Iran Conflict: Operation Epic F$%kery – Part 1

The first strikes are just the beginning.

In Part 1 of this series, Tank examines the opening stages of the Iran conflict, looking closely at the actions and reactions of both the US and Iran. From the tragic Minab girls’ school strike and other civilian casualties to Iran’s internal repression under the IRGC, including executions and harsh treatment of its own people, this episode digs into the realities behind the headlines.

Tank also explores Iran’s regional influence, including its support and funding of terror proxy groups, and how these dynamics feed into the ongoing tension with Western powers.

Beyond immediate events, Part 1 questions the narratives driving public perception:

    • Are we being fed the same lies and justifications that led to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?
    • Is this conflict about phantom nuclear threats, oil interests, or strategic power plays?
    • How do governments present civilian casualties and human rights abuses to the public, and what’s left out?
    •  including the petrodollar system, oil politics, and potential hidden pressures on world leaders.

Because in conflicts like these, the official story and the real story are rarely the same.

Is the conflict in Iran really about Regime change or just more F$%kery.

  • EP 94: Australia’s Under‑16 Social Media Ban: Protection, Control, or Illusion

This is an episode 94 of The Truth Tank

In this episode where we break down Australia’s new under-16 social media ban and the growing debate around what it really means for young people, the internet, and the future of online speech.

For nearly twenty years schools have been dealing with the impact of mobile phones and social media. Distracted classrooms, online drama spilling into school life, and platforms built around algorithms that reward outrage, negativity, and constant engagement. It’s a problem that has been growing for decades.

Now Australia has become the first country in the world to introduce a nationwide ban preventing anyone under 16 from using major social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat and X.

I will break down the new laws, what they mean in practice, and how the government expects platforms to enforce the rules through age verification systems.

We also explore the deeper questions behind the ban. If algorithms are the real drivers behind harmful content and addictive engagement loops, why aren’t governments forcing social media companies to change the systems that shape what users see online? Why introduce a blanket ban instead of regulating the technology itself?

Also looks at the contradictions surrounding the policy, including the ongoing debate around age verification across the internet, the question of digital ID, and why some platforms — including Bluesky — have become part of the wider conversation.

Along the way we look at the broader cultural and political questions surrounding the internet today: free speech, online influence, the power of algorithms, and whether governments are trying to solve a real problem — or simply reacting to a digital world that has grown far beyond their control. Are there conspiratorial factors at blame such as influencing future voters? or is it just about protecting young people.

  • EP 93: Avatar: Fire & Ash – Review, Revenue & What’s Next for the Series

This is episode 93 of The Truth Tank.

Dive into my full breakdown of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire & Ash — from my thoughts on the film itself to the financial and franchise implications. In the first part, I review the movie, exploring the new tribes, Wind Traders and Mangwon, moral choices, power struggles within the RDA, and surprise returning characters. I share what I loved, what I didn’t, and my love letter to James Cameron, highlighting how he pushes the envelope with hybrid practical and visual effects, just as he did in Terminator and the 2009 Avatar, which set the benchmark for 3D cinema.

Then, we dive into the numbers: box office standings, predicted earnings, and how it stacks up for Disney and Fox. I break down the costs of production and marketing, comparisons with Way of Water, and the challenges the franchise faces in today’s changing movie landscape — from cost of living impacts to streaming convenience.

Finally, we zoom out to the bigger picture: how Avatar compares to Marvel and Star Wars, the future of the franchise, advancements in VFX, the rise of AI in film, and what it all means for storytelling, creativity, and global audiences. I also share a sneak peek into our merch store and new ways to support the podcast.

Whether you’re here for the deep dive on the movie or the insider look at the industry, this episode has everything an Avatar fan (or a film geek) needs to know.

  • EP 92: The Bondi Massacre - Part: 2

This is episode 92 of The Truth Tank.

The Bondi Massacre - Part: 2

In this episode, we examine the growing tension around hate speech, antisemitic attacks, and political responsibility — both in Australia and globally.

From incidents targeting Jewish students in schools and universities, to protests at the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, we separate verified events from emotional narratives and ask what has actually been done in response.

    We look closely at:

    • The Prime Minister’s response to criticism that more could have been done

    • The rise in antisemitic incidents in Australia and overseas

    • Whether existing anti-vilification and hate speech laws were already sufficient

    • What new proposed laws could mean for civil liberties

    • The difference between intent and impact in hate speech legislation

We also explore the broader questions:

    Were warning signs ignored?
Why weren’t certain extremist figures or hate preachers dealt with earlier?
What are the legal thresholds for surveillance, arrest, or deportation?
Are intelligence agencies reallocating resources in response to rising foreign espionage and domestic tensions?

This episode isn’t about amplifying outrage.
It’s about examining patterns — political responses, cycles of division, and whether new laws are solving problems or simply expanding power.

Because when symbols are banned, speech is regulated, and surveillance expands, the real question becomes:

Are we addressing the root causes — or reacting to the symptoms?

This is a measured deep dive into accountability, civil liberties, and the line between protecting communities and protecting democracy.
