In 1995, Steven Pladl met Alyssa online and began a romantic relationship. Things escalated quickly, and Alyssa soon became pregnant with their child. However, because both were young at the time, they decided to give away their daughter, where she would be adopted by a pair of foster parents and renamed Katie Rose Fusco.  

Life was relatively smooth-sailing for Katie while she was in the care of her adoptive parents, but in 2016, when Katie turned 18, she decided to reach out to her biological parents, which is where things began to take a drastic turn.
