Morrison Products needed more capacity, and the only other option on the table was a 7-day work week. They went to 4 days instead.Plant manager Davey Denney walks host Parker Hendricks through how a 103-year-old HVAC manufacturer in Canton, Georgia moved both shifts to four 10-hour days, what went wrong in the first few months, and why job applicants light up when they hear about it. Three years in, Friday overtime is volunteer only and everybody wants it because they are home by 10am with a long weekend ahead.Davey also shares his own story. He started as a production control assistant right out of tech school and became plant manager at 32, with people on the floor asking him to go for the job. He explains how he leads 60 to 80 people, why he blocks 30 minutes every week for one-on-ones, and how one round of floor feedback turned into a fix for scrap on a 5,000-pound steel coil line.Morrison Products, now rebranding as Morrison Lau, was founded in 1923 and builds the blower wheels inside HVAC systems from Carrier, Rheem, Goodman, Lennox and Trane. Very few manufacturers ever make it to 100 years. Davey shares what he thinks has kept this one going. If you run a plant and you are fighting to hire and keep good people, this episode is for you.Are you a manufacturer with a story to tell?
