Click here to email, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
A trauma bond isn't simply loving someone who has hurt you.
It's the pattern that can develop when harm, instability, manipulation, control, criticism, or emotional abuse are repeatedly followed by love, affection, relief, reconciliation, and connection.
And sometimes, without even realizing it, we begin building our lives around avoiding someone else's reactions, or even punishment.
We make the accommodation.
We keep the peace.
We stop going places.
We stop saying what we really think.
We convince ourselves, “It's fine. It's not a big deal.”
Until one day, we look around and wonder:
When did I stop doing the things that made me happy?
In this episode, we're talking about trauma bonds, self-abandonment, the difference between caregiving and caretaking, and how we can slowly put ourselves in an invisible cage without realizing we're building one.
I'll also walk you through a simple exercise to help you identify the places where your choices may have quietly become about managing someone else's reactions instead of honoring what you actually want.
Because sometimes the first step toward freedom isn't leaving the relationship.
Sometimes, it's finding your way back to your own voice.
And if you're worried that someone you love may be caught in a trauma bond, this episode may also give you language for something you've been struggling to name.
You don't always see the cage when you're inside it.
