Its absolutely imperative to have the conversation about involvement. This means asking your partner, "What do you want to do in the company". Then comes the tricky part...shut up and listen!! just because you have a need for them somewhere in the company, doesn't mean that's what they want to do. Forcing them to do something that they don't really want to do WILL make them resentful and will cause problems. Even if they agree to do it, for a little while to "help out" don't let them, it will only cause tension down the road. Its important to allow your partner to do what they WANT to do in the business and not what you NEED them to. keeping them happy is one of the best ways to keep some of the work stresses away from the dinner table and out of the bedroom.
