Within a span of 30 days, the 2024 election became one of the most chaotic, surprising, and historic elections in history.

We asked our undecided voters where they were when they heard about the attempted assassination of President Trump, their immediate reactions, Trump’s RNC speech, Republican Vice Presidential Nominee JD Vance, President Biden dropping out of the race, and Kamala Harris.

On Thursday June 27th, 2024, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump took the stage in the first of two planned televised debates. The debate, which took place in Atlanta and was hosted by CNN, was unique in a few ways. The Commission on Presidential Debates, which has organized debates for nearly 40 years, was excluded after both Trump and Biden expressed their dissatisfaction over the organization’s handling of previous debates. CNN had its own debate format that both candidates agreed to. There was no audience, no opening remarks, microphones were cut off after each candidate's allotted time was used, no pre-written notes, and no props or contact with campaign staff during the debate. This also marked the first time two U.S. Presidents have debated each other for the chance to reclaim the White House. 

What ultimately transpired in this debate was 90 minutes of lies, insults, incoherent answers and minimal substance. President Biden appeared to be losing his voice, which his campaign attributed to “battling a cold”. He struggled with completing his thoughts and communicating his positions. The fallout left the Democratic Party in turmoil, with some calling on Biden to step down. Former President Trump repeatedly misrepresented much of his record and told numerous falsehoods on many topics including the economy, immigration and January 6th.

We asked our undecided voters about their thoughts on the debate, their impressions of Biden and Trump, what they would've liked to hear discussed, and if this debate impacted their choice.

May 30th, 2024, just after 5pm Eastern Standard Time, a landmark moment was branded into the 247 year history of the US. For the first time ever, a former American president was found guilty of felony crimes. A jury of 12 New Yorkers deliberated for roughly 10 hours to reach a decision in a case that has people on all sides of the political spectrum debating the integrity of our justice system and the man, himself. In the end, Donald Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in an effort to influence the 2016 election. 

And yet, this historic conviction may end up nothing more than a footnote in the 2024 election. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll published on May 31st, only "ten percent of Republican registered voters say they are less likely to vote" for Trump following the verdict. "Among independent registered voters, 25% said Trump's conviction made them less likely to support him in November, compared to 18% who said they were more likely and 56% who said the conviction would have no impact on their decision.”

So how does this affect our undecided voters? The answers may surprise you. On today’s episode, we gauge the impact of the verdict on Diana, Zahid, Claire, Brian, and Phil and discover that on the road to the White House, even a felony conviction doesn’t block all paths.

For episode 3, our focus shifts from Donald Trump toward President Joe Biden. Much has been made in the media about his age and memory and whether he’s cognitively capable of handling another term. But an unanticipated performance at the State of the Union reignited his base and left many questioning that narrative. And while Donald Trump faces a jury of his peers in court, the court of public opinion continues to weigh in on the effectiveness of Biden’s foreign policies, with an eye to the conflicts between Israel and Palestine, Ukraine and Russia, and our own protracted clash at our southern border. Our undecided voters share their observations on the current commander in chief and how his decisions on the world stage affect their decision in the voting booth.
