It was a frigid winter's February night in 1978, when five friends from Yuba County, California, vanished without a trace after attending a college basketball game. Their car would later be found abandoned deep in the wilderness of Plumas National Forest, miles off any logical route home. Months later, four bodies would be discovered, in various degrees of distress and starvation. But the fifth man, Gary Mathias, would never found. Decades after their disappearance, the true events of that night remain one of America’s most haunting and debated mysteries.
