Publisher's Summary:
Summer vacation on the island was supposed to be a restorative time for Kate, who'd lost her close friend Elizabeth in a sudden accident. But when she inherits a trunk of Elizabeth's journals, they reveal a woman far different than the cheerful wife and mother Kate had known. The complicated portrait of Elizabeth--her upbringing, her marriage, and journey to motherhood--makes Kate question not just their friendship, but her most fundamental beliefs about loyalty and deception at a time when she is uncertain in her own marriage. When an unfamiliar man's name appears in the pages, Kate realizes the extent of what she didn't know about her friend--including where she was really going when she died. Set in the anxious post-September 11th summer of 2002, this story of two women--their friendship, their marriages, private ambitions, and fears--considers the aspects of ourselves we show and those we conceal, and the repercussions of our choices.
Members Reviews:
Typical story line
I like the way the story captivates you but it was typical story line in that you knew what was to come before it happened. Overall it was good.
BORING WITH A CAPITAL B
Any additional comments?
I stuck it out till nearly the end just waiting for SOMETHING to happen.
Great Audiobook
Where does The Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D. rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It ranks pretty high. I didn't want to put the audiobook on pause after listening to it.
What other book might you compare The Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D. to and why?
Lucy Clarkes - The Sea Sisters ~They both have journals and deal with the issue of losing someone close to them.
What about Angela Brazils performance did you like?
I loved Angles Brazil's ability to bring out the emotion in the character.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, this definitely was.
Boring. Nothing "Wowed" Me.....
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I wouldnt recommend this book to a friend. this book was boring. There was no climax or anything exciting. It just felt like I was reading the lives of 2 everyday couples dealing with their everyday "issues"..... Nothing Wowed me..... Waste of my time.
What could Nichole Bernier have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Give some sort of explosive ending or even something exciting in the middle of the book.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
the Narrator read very slowly (and i had the speed turned up to normal). she also tried WAY too hard to pronounce evey syllable of every word..... a little over the top.
Could you see The Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D. being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.
Perceptive Reflections on Parenthood, Friendships
Interesting characters and premise. Thoughtful observations of relationships, what we know and don't know, transitions. Built around unknown of what one person's journals reveal.
