Heartbreaking tale of survival, of love, loss, and healing.

My Last Love Story is a beautiful heartbreaking tale of survival, of love, loss, and healing. Simi is a strong resilient woman who has been dealt her share of pain and tragedy. Beaten and wounded, she's crawled back to her feet after each devastating blow. Two strangers, bestfriends Nirvaan and Zayaan, become her safehaven through some of the most challenging times of her life. They become her world - a world each of the men will shatter in their own way.

Falguni Kothari sucked me in with her writing style. She created characters who were both strong and flawed making me love them even more.

This review is from reading an earlier version of the book

Excellent Writing!

Simeen was the fun-loving, spoiled only daughter in her family of five. Content to living it up and enjoying her teenage years without worries, life as she knew it came crashing to a screeching halt at the tragic death of her parents. Orphaned, she was left in the care of her two older brothers, who were barely of legal age, each trying to find his way in the world to make a great life for himself, and her leeching aunt and uncle. As Simeen sank deeper into depression and grief, her world became smaller as she closed out most of the friends sheâd had. That is until one brother forced her to go out and celebrate her birthday.

Far down the beach in a town of her native India she met Nirvaan and Zayaan, two friends who were thick as thieves and who shared everything. They were the answer to unspoken prayers in many ways as they rushed to her aid that night as she hovered on the edge of oblivion. What formed was a deep and abiding friendship, an unbreakable bond that would last a lifetime.

Theirâs was a friendship that was so much more, but almost unexplainable. Few people understood it. Some even balked at it. Still they carried on, that is until one night tragedy struck again, changing the trajectory of their lives.

Years later, as the wife of Nirvaan, the awesome threesome reconnects to live out a bucket list of items on Nirvaanâs list. Heâs dying from cancer and wants to spend whatever time he has left living this life to the fullest, with his two favorite people by his side.

The tragedy that separated the friends years before continues to live in the silence that exists between them. Each has done what they could to make the best of a horrible situation.

Narrator: Ulli Birvé

Format: Unabridged

Length: 11 hrs and 9 mins

Language: English

Release date: 11-10-17

Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd

Genres: Fiction, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

A gripping and beautifully written novel in the style of Elizabeth Is Missing and the work of Elizabeth Harrower.

I have no use for forgiveness, not yet. But other ideas like that, kindness, for example, I think that is fundamental. Resurrection; I like that too. And love, of course, love, love, love.

Alice Murray learns to play the piano aged three on an orange orchard in rural Australia. Recognising her daughter's gift, her mother sends Alice to boarding school in the bleak north of England, and there Alice stays for the rest of her childhood. Then she's offered a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London, and on a summer school in Oxford she meets Edward, an economics professor who sweeps her off her feet.

Alice soon finds that Edward is damaged, and she's trapped. She clings to her playing and to her dream of becoming a concert pianist, until disaster strikes. Increasingly isolated as the years unravel, eventually Alice can't find it in herself to carry on. Then she hears the most beautiful music from the walls of her house....

This novel's love story is that of a woman who must embrace life again if she is to survive. Inspiring and compelling, it explores the dark terrain of violence and the transformative powers of music and love.

Brilliant

Loved this v evocative novel. Great insight and sensitivity in to the emotional abuse of women. Beautifully read. Most topical too. Perhaps too slow for some , but I felt equally as good as Chessel Beach.

epic sci fi adventure with a heart

starting with a run of the mill premise, a man depressed with modern life and his inconsequential part in it, this book wastes little time leaping into the realm of the supernatural. Before you can say 'cheer up mate', he's shot himself and is on the other side. This is a long book, but as it is split into three main sections it didn't drag for me. The plot is mission driven, with our guy travelling through time to sort things out. Of course, things are not as they seem and before we get to the end zombies, angels, soldiers, warlords, mad scientists, God and the devil have all shown up to keep us on our toes. It sort of reminded me of a cross between the TV Show Supernatural, Quantum Leap and the Back to the Future movies and that can't be a bad thing. The book doesn't break any new ground but it speeds along at a good pace and has a surprisingly touching ending. I really enjoyed it. Give it a try if you like the idea of time travelling ghosts saving the world.

Title: The Inn at Heron's Bay

Author: W. M. J. Kreucher

Narrator: Ann Bumbak

Format: Unabridged

Length: 3 hrs and 7 mins

Language: English

Release date: 11-03-17

Publisher: Walter M Kreucher

Genres: Fiction, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

The Inn at Heron's Bay is the masterful tale of a female innkeeper and her guests. Set in coastal Carolina, an area once terrorized by notorious pirates, we glimpse life as we enjoy the interactions of Katherine, Dixon, and the quirky Doctor Bob.

Heron's Bay is a love story and much more.

Listen as Ann Bumbak brings the characters to life.

Members Reviews:

Easy listening

I listened to the audio version of this book having received it free from the author. I think the audio was probably the best way to "read" a book like this.

The story centers around an innkeeper, Elizabeth who is desperately trying to keep her business afloat. She befriends the various guests that come to stay. Dixon and Kathy are two such guests, an older couple on holiday. However, they have recently received a devastating terminal brain cancer diagnosis. They are helped by the friendship of Elizabeth and by the efforts of an alternative medicine doctor who happens to be staying at the inn.

This book is full of creative detail and I could imagine the beauty of the scenery in my mind. The waves, the sea creatures, the sun sets are all there in vivid detail. The dialogue was realistic and the emotions heartfelt. The characters were interesting despite nothing much really happening in the book. It is just a snapshot into the lives of a very ordinary couple and a innkeeper dealing with the stresses and strains of everyday life. Perhaps, that's the charm of the book as it's a bit like reading a soap opera in an exotic location...

This doesn't appear to be a Christian book. At least, there was no mention of God, other than a couple of times as a swear word which was disappointing from a Christian author. The terminal illness material felt hopeless and meaningless without God. Surely, this would be a perfect time to bring the truth of Jesus to the situation?

I recommend this book as a novel for light reading. However, for those seeking Gospel threads it is lacking.

Maybe Audiobook isn't for Me

I listened to this book, given to me by the author for a review.

It was soft and sweet, a simple book about a couple, an inn, and it's innkeeper. The constant changing of first person narrative of each character, even a turtle (that I still don't understand why it needed to be there), threw me off though. It was hard for me to keep track of each character as there didn't seem to be much change of voice from the narrator. To someone who has listened to audiobooks before, and a lot, they might be able to keep up and enjoy it. But for someone like me who prefers a physical book, or at least a different voice for each character, this was hard to keep up with. The reading also seemed a bit emotionless.

Again, this is a nice book, but I would have preferred reading a physical book rather than an audiobook.

I couldnt put it down.

This story has more twists and turns than the most challenging ski run and is totally unpredictable. It also has all the warmth and delight of the best of family Christmases without overt sentimentality.

I will definitely read another Karen Swan book

Title: Cold Feet

Subtitle: The Lost Years

Author: Carmel Harrington

Narrator: Thomas Judd

Format: Unabridged

Length: 8 hrs and 38 mins

Language: English

Release date: 09-14-17

Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton

Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 2 votes

Genres: Fiction, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

An original Cold Feet novel written in collaboration with the award-winning Cold Feet team.

Anyone who was watching TV in the 1990s will remember the hugely popular Cold Feet drama. We loved it for being both funny and heartbreaking. For presenting warm, honest, flawed-but-real people who felt more like our mates than characters on a screen. The show returned to our TVs last year, and after 13 years away, we walked straight back into their lives. It's no surprise that the latest series got an average of seven million views a week, making it one of ITV's most successful dramas of the year.

Cold Feet: The Lost Years is set between the old and new series, filling in the gaps, bringing us even closer to the characters we've laughed, grieved and grown up with. It's the missing piece of the puzzle that the show's millions of fans have been waiting for.

Members Reviews:

Great prequel to a fab series on tele

Overall I enjoyed listening to this, the narrator captured the character and personality of the cast well you could imagine them speaking the words and having those conversations. It was lovely to get a real glimpse of adam and family and understand him a bit better. I absolutely loved this series when it first aired and the most recent have been good and I wouldn't have missed them and catching up with the characters for the world. Overall really good with lots of nods and acknowledgements to previous story lines. I found the ending a bit of an anti climax but it did fit in well with the beginning of series 6.

Disappointing

As a Cold Feet fan from the beginning I was eager to read this book. However I found it very vanilla, everything was twee and hearts and flowers. It felt like it was to appease the viewer that it was all ok in the end. However we are 2 series in on TV to the characters now and know that they live in the real world where life isn't kind. The book lacked the grit of the TV series.

Lovely story, horrible voices from the reader

Histoire adorable, mais la lectrice est pitoyable lorsqu'elle essaie de prendre des accents. Celui de Huckle est horrible et rend le personnage lourd et stupide...
