As good as the original!

Sometimes squeals just don't even come close to the original....but not this time. Ms. Juby has brought the wonderful characters of Woefield thundering back with all the wit and warmth of the first book Home to Woefield.

I am madly in love with her character Seth, he makes me laugh out loud until I have tears running down my face and am completely lost in delighted laughter and I want to adopt little Sara, give Earl a big hug (which would no doubt make him come unglued lol) and have coffee with Prudence.

I am hoping madly for a whole series of Woefield Farm stories.

Fantastic and funny

I loved Susan's latest book. Republic of Dirt follows on from The Woefield Poultry Collective, with equal style, charm and humour. Best of all the same engaging characters come to life again on the page. Susan's 4 voices remain distinct. This time, as the pages were flying by, I didn't look at the chapter heading to see who was speaking. I knew the characters so well. Sara remains my favourite of the 4 great protagonists. Wholly real to her age, likeable and endearing. I found myself paying particular attention to the transition between voices. Subtle and clever -- the last sentence of one leading to the next in a surprising way.

Republic had a deeper, serious thread winding through it but it retains the laugh-out-loud humour Susan is known for. I'm especially partial to throw-away humour like this:

"We got to decorate this bastard," said Earl, getting to the point.

"He doesn't mean me," I said. "He's referring to the shack."

I'm so glad the Woefield gang is with us once again.

That'll hold me over until The Truth Commission. April can't come soon enough.

Absolutely loved this.

I absolutely loved this. The writing is fresh, funny and insightful. I'd never heard of Susan Juby, but i'm now a fan. As soon as I finished the first one I ordered the sequel - the characters are that good. It's a nice tender, funny story, the kind they used to write in the 'old days'. I loved it!

I'll need to come back with the review I put on Goodreads, but I enjoyed this better than I expected.

Great book!!

I typically only read detective novels. And after dating the dad of a bullrider and a bucking bull breeder for the past six years--I'm more than a little "over" the rodeo scene. So normally, I would pass by this book in a flash. but I was intrigued by the title and the description of the book. it looked like it was more about a relationship with a sister and about broken families, broken hearts and broken glass. I took the chance and bought the audiobook. I am soooo glad I did! This isn't the typical female fluff stuff. Laura Drake digs pretty deep on the relationships between Harley and her sister...but also with Harley and the people of the rodeo world. We watch Harley struggle to trust and build the relationships necessary to be a good bullfighter--and we wait with anticipation to see Harley realize that these relationships aren't just necessary for her career, but for her soul. Drake does a great job accurately portraying what goes on in the rodeo world at events. she also accurately describes the feeling of family and inclusiveness that makes up the rodeo community. I also like how the "glass" theme is represented throughout the book--both in a physical sense and also in the sense that it describes Angel's and Harley's fragilities. And just as a side note--my boyfriend's son Pistol Robinson was one of the first PBR riders disqualified for taking too much time in the chutes after that rule to was instituted. He was disqualified a couple times for taking too long. So it wasn't just a Brazilian thing! :)

An early PGW,

And was enjoyable; however, it was marred by the strong dialect of Spike. It slowed the reading process and took away from the flow. Still in all, it had that familiar ring so familiar with other works of his and I recommend it to his fans, just to add to your library of must reads.

A good read for anyone who appreciates a well tuned story.

Wodehouse has little interest in being heralded in the literary circles. He writes to entertain. He was exceptionally popular for so long because he weaves a fabric of flawless narrative texture from start to finish. I rarely find writing these days with a satisfying range of social and physical geography. This book and the majority of Wodehouse successes give an accurate portrait of big city life in the 30s and 40s from New York skid row at the bottom to the estates of landed gentry in Buckinghamshire at the top. His character are thoroughly fleshed out and their struggles and fortunes are always fresh and compelling. Many of the books are available gratis in the kindle ebook library.

Wodehouse at his best

There is harmless crime and British asses and an overbearing older generation and a country estate and of course a pretty girl. This time the hero is American, which is a nice switch, but all the other Americans are fools of course except the pretty girl obviously. Anyway, nobody reads Wodehouse for the plots, he only had one plot, it's all about the language. Here the language is rich and full just like we like. If you read Wodehouse read this one too.

Old school wit

I haven't read any Wodehouse other than Jeeves, and this seems pretty lightweight by comparison, but it's a fun little farce. If you can get past the outdated slang and the abysmal (presumably intentionally so) "Bowery" accent of one of the characters, you'll find some good laughs.

A good Wodehouse read.

I am a big fan of Wodehouse. The Intrusion of Jimmy is not one of his best, in my opinion, but is still very entertaining. Wodehouse is a master of clever descriptions and dialog, and there are more than a few chuckles here. Well worth reading.

This book is sick

I love Tiffany's voice. It's like when you drip wet sand to make a sand castle. Each chapter is a little mini-story, with a kind of Elliott Smith vibe.

Really great Narration

Usually authors have a hard time sounding "pro" but this book sounds great. Would love to see more by this author.

Yes. The Narrator is so into it, it's gold. If you miss pulp action novels of the 70's or enjoy graphic novels, then you'll love this too.

Great Narrator Made the Book Come Alive

This was a slowly paced book with too many coincidences, even for this type of storyline. Sorry but no spoilers. Also, there were too many digressionsvery interesting ones but they didnt add to the storylineso I began skipping whole sections on my Kindle. However, upon switching to Audible, the story came alive, because of the excellent narration by Joyce Bean. I went back to the beginning of this book and listened until the end!

Tender, Real, Delightful

I had just finished a great book, but it was one that left me feeling spent. It'd wrung me out. I wanted a lighter read but didn't want fluff. So, I found this book and it was exactly what I needed.

It's a heartwarming tale, but not saccharin sweet. The characters are dealing with difficult things, but they deal with them in the way we'd all hope to, with a gentle hold. They embrace them, but are not devastated by them.

I love the relationships between Leona and her family, but there was something special and genuine in her relationships with her home health patients. I've seen it in real life and it was beautiful to "see it on the page".

Entertaining

Narrator was great. A lot of ideas presented really were very thought provoking. Interesting story. Good character development. Got a little bit long at the end!

Entertaining story.

I really enjoyed most all of this book except for all of the crude language used by the women. In the real world, I don't know many Mothers, who care about their families who use this kind of language. I was also shocked that a 13 year old would be allowed to be in the room while her Aunt was inseminated! This could have been a very sweet story, filled with lots of wisdom about love and life but all the other stuff ruined it for me.

A Page Turner

Loretta Nyhan takes you on a descriptive journey through a woman's break through while falling for a man going through a breakdown.

All The Good Parts appeals to women and men as it reflects throughout the main story on the choices we each have made that impact each phase of our own lives.

I would highly recommend this book as an Audible listen in the car as I did with my fiancé and aging mother. It made a long road trip way more fun. We were glued to the story for twelve hours our first session. My mother will need a hard copy for Christmas to finish it. We enjoyed and finished it on our way home. We could not wait to get back in the car to find out what happened.

In the spirit of Ove & Harold Frye

This book is very much in the vein of "A Man Called Ove." Features a cast of characters with various flaws and fears, all joined together by a troubled teen Who is wiser than she knows.

Charming.

Love the voice

The authors writing was so good but the voice just really made the story come alive. This overall story wasn't my all time favorite but with the voice work and the great writing skills of the author it was so fun to listen to. Very witty.

Brilliant, moving, and au current

C'est vraiment bouleversant, cette histoire à deux ctés: Piracci le sensible homme de Europe qui viens de perdre son espoir, et Suleiman l'homme dur de l'Afrique qui ne perd jamais son espoir. Bien qu'écrit il y a dix ans, c'est actuel, et Gaudé capture le pathos des clandestins, et ceux qui gardent les frontières, avec brio. Il est le livre le plus émouvant que je l'ai lu dans les années.
