August 12, 2024 2004-05 The Great Escape - Part 1/2
West Bromwich Albion were back in the Premier League for the second time in three seasons after securing immediate promotion from the First Division.

Club legends to be Zoltan Gera and Jonathan Greening entered B71 along with at the time Albion ‘s eye opening capture of double Premier League and FA Cup winning striker Nwankwo Kanu.

After a solid start to the new campaign, Albion’s form dipped and Gary Megson’s four-and-a-half year spell in charge came to an an abrupt end.

Enter - Captain Marvel - Bryan Robson to steer the ship and despite a rocky start, things were just starting to accelerate.

Enjoy those audio commentaries and stories from the beginning of the Gera era, to taking points off Arsenal and Manchester City, as we edge towards the end of 2004 with renewed belief.

In case you missed it - this interview with former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Graham Lovett was originally posted on Social Media back in 2016.

We talk about Graham’s time at the Albion and what being on the 1966 League Cup and 1968 FA Cup winning team was like amongst other things.

Graham is sadly no longer with us, but what a gentleman he was giving up his time to talk to me. A big thanks goes to Chasetown Football Club and their owners at the time for helping arrange this.

It’s here Baggies! Part 2 of Albion’s exciting automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
After signing Paul ‘Robbo’ Robinson in October to strengthen Albion’s defence, Megson dipped into the transfer market once more recruiting Mark Kinsella and Geoff Horsfield to bolster an already strong squad.
Those signings along with a young “One of our own” Lloyd Dyer proved pivotal to push the Baggies through the Promotion door in comfortable fashion in the end as Megson’s men never dropped out of the top two for the rest of the campaign.

July 09, 2024 2002-03: The Premiership dream!
Back in the top flight for the first time since 1986, Albion were proud as punch to be pitting their whits against the big boys once more and showed it with superb victories at Manchester City and West Ham United.
Despite ultimately being relegated, this strong spirited Megson team once again gave it everything they’d got in their first ever season in the Premiership.
Another Welsh Wizard is born (see what I did AJ!) Super Bob’s final hurrah and so much more as we were voted the best supporters in the country for that campaign.

July 02, 2024 2001-2002: Premiership, here we come!
Gary Megson’s Baggies were back in the top flight after 16 years of being in the wilderness following spells in the second and third tier of English football.
After cutting an 11 point gap over our Black Country rivals Wolves. Albion’s never-say-die attitude and incredible team spirit took them over the line to Premiership glory.
Selling one of our star strikers, the Battle at Bramall Lane, missing more penalties than we had scored along with going all the way to the FA Cup Quarter-Final. This season had it all from drama to ecstasy with iconic moments and memories never to be forgotten.

June 23, 2024 2000-01: Megson’s Marvels
Gary Megson’s first full season in charge at the Hawthorns was like being on a dream boat as we showed our credentials amongst the elite team’s in the First Division.
A team to be proud of that gave it everything as we came within 90 minutes of a Play-Off Final at Wembley, along with beating a Premiership outfit in the Cup.
A lovable strike partnership, along with a solid defensive outfit were the keys to Megson’s magic potion, as the start of something special was evident during this campaign.

June 15, 2024 1999-2000: Sir Gary The Saviour
A season that began full of fresh optimism following the dismissal of Denis Smith and the appointment of Ex-Premier League Manager Brian Little who came with an excellent reputation.
Yet challenges on the pitch and off the pitch accumulated with poor results cost Little his job meaning Albion were searching for their second manager in less than 12 months.
A new Chairman in Paul Thompson and a new manager in Gary Megson helped revitalise a slippery slope for the Baggies as they pulled out all the stops to survive the dreaded trap door of Division 2 Football on the final day.
