Welcome back to the Unpodcast. It's been over a year since our last episode and our last Unconference event. As we prepare to kick-off Unconference V next week, it seemed fitting to have Geir Windsvoll on, one of the co-creators, to reintroduce the event.

In this episode, we'll catch up on what's been happening since you last heard from us. We'll revisit the genesis of the Unconference and where we hope to take it from here. Also, we have a bonus Lightning Round, as a taste of some topics we could discuss at Unconference V. But we could discuss some, all, or none of those topics. It's all up to you.

Welcome to the Unpodcast. For Episode 4, we’re trying a new format – a topic-specific roundtable discussion. Our first topic is AI. You’re probably wondering why this is being released so soon after Episode 3? Well, one of the goals of this format is to cover recent events and release the episodes quickly. As such, this discussion was recorded Monday March 20th.

Our guests for the roundtable are Lukas, myself, and Geir.

Lukas is an engineer turned product manager, who led Google Tag Manager for many years. He currently does product consulting and is looking into creating something new with large language models.

I am an engineer turned cat herder. I was CTO of OMG Network, one of the first Layer 2s for Ethereum. More recently, I was Entrepreneur In Residence at SCB 10X. As a former crypto bro, I’m an AI bro now. Naturally.

Ingo has spent his entire career working in climate and has attended almost every COP climate conference. He’s a co-founder of South Pole, one of the leading global players in sustainability, climate, and carbon. Every conversation I have with Ingo about climate and carbon markets feels like a master class. I feel always like I learned something that I couldn’t have learned anywhere else from someone with deep practical experience on the topic. In this conversation, we’ll get into the current state of carbon markets, especially in Thailand, why he believes that COP has failed and and what excites him most about COP today, and his thoughts on the importance of community and connection for climate action, and much, much, more.

I met Dora at the first Unconference and she’s become a fixture for the event and the community. Dora is the founder of Thrive Ventures, a social impact venture builder here in Thailand. As someone who’s not in the impact space, I find the way Dora speaks about it both approachable and fascinating. She’s able to distill a concept down to it’s essence and explain it in plain terms – without any jargon or pretension. Which, to me, means that she understands it extremely well.

In this conversation, she educates me on the recent popularity of the term “regenerative,” why the biggest problem about the Social Impact space are the people, and what has captured her attention so much that she contracted Dengue fever for it. We also cover one of my favorite tidbits about Dora – why she speaks English like she’s from California. And It’s not because she lived there.

For our inaugural episode, we’re speaking with Pong, who attended our first Unconference. One of the best things about Pong is that he’s up for anything, so he’s the perfect guinea pig – or, um, lab partner.

I worked with Pong for 2 years while we were at OMG. Now Pong is CTO of a crypto project that deals with treasury and risk management. Our conversation starts with crypto and we spend more time on the topic than we wanted to – but perhaps that was to be expected. It’s a bit deep so if you haven’t been following all the failures with FTX, Alameda, and Sam Bankman Fraud – ahem, Fried – it might seem somewhat foreign.
