Is private label right for you? Today Robyn talks about how she handles private label, why you shouldn’t start out doing private label, and the best way to go about starting your own private label.  Robyn goes over the wholesale/relabel private label method vs building your own product from scratch.

Robyn talks about talking to a United States company and asking them to white label their products for you. Trader Joe’s grocery store is a great example of how white labeling can be very effective but also that you need to understand the liability and safety issues involved with private labeling. Robyn breaks down the 5 things you need to have in line in order to start private labeling:

1. Have some basic business experience.
2. Have about 5 to 10 thousand dollars to invest.
3. You need to have persistence over time.
4. Being willing to take a calculated risk.
5. Commitment to excellence.

This fullness was driven in part by FBA inventory that didn’t sell until well into 2016. To avoid potential capacity constraints during the 2016 holiday season, Amazon is accelerating the expansion of f their fulfillment capacity and are changing our FBA fee structure to encourage all sellers to send in and store products in November and December that are likely to sell by the end of 2016. To give you time to plan for these changes, they will begin to take effect on October 1, 2016.”

Today Robyn talks with Jennifer Moser of Think Cascadia and Cascadia Seller Solutions about all things importing and what you need to do to make certain that your business is ready to handle all the customs requirements, import fees, and meeting Amazons requirements. Robyn and Jennifer talk about how important it is to have a customs broker, and what you can and cannot do when you start importing.

They also cover when you should start thinking about Q4 when it comes to importing your Q4 products. Amazon starts thinking about Q4 in January! And so should you! You never know when a shipment will be held up in customs and you never want to run in to a situation where you’re stuck holding your Q4 inventory until next year because you couldn’t get your items in to Amazon on time.
