On today's episode No.54 of The unTITLED Podcast, we have a conversation with Denise Reddy. If you are deep-rooted fans of the Women's Game, both in the US and Europe you will know who Denise is. If you do not, today is your lucky day. Denise is part of a group of women who are really foundational to the Women's Game in this country - and Women's Sport. Her journey as a player and coach intersects a number of legends - Theresa Grentz, Michelle Akers, Carli Lloyd, Christie Rampone, Emma Hayes - the list goes on. Denise herself is a legend, and I do very much hope she does not mind us saying so. Our conversation was honest and insightful and just an absolute pleasure. Denise is currently serving as an Assistant Coach to Emma Hayes on her staff at Chelsea - one of the best Women's Football teams in the world, without question. There is immense value in what Denise shares, and this episode is one everyone will get something out of.
We start our conversation with Denise sharing how sport attributed greatly to her confidence growing up, playing multiple sports at the collegiate level and the moment in college that influenced her most as an athlete and later on in her career as a coach (5:02); She continues by talking about her journey playing overseas which involves a conversation with Michelle Akers at a wedding, and training with one of the best teams in Europe without initially being on the roster (13:15); Denise then discusses the differences in playing styles from her experience playing and coaching in the US and Europe and shares some insight into the approach to training and the use of data at Chelsea (19:35); She then discusses how player development and her approach to it has changed throughout her coaching career (31:43); She then shares what she believes separates great players, why her partnership with Emma Hayes works, having coached together at two different points in their careers, the evolution of the center half position which she played at the collegiate and professional level and what sets Fran Kirby apart (41:55); Denise then defines "Womanhood in 3 Words" offers some advice to young women, and shares some wisdom about her coaching journey (1:00:43); To close out the podcast, the 54th edition of "Player Voicemail" (1:12:14).
