The USL Show

A BOLD Step Forward

This week we riff–perhaps a little too much—on BOLD team names, season extension, LCFC’s new manager, and basically any other tangent that randomly pops in our minds. Thanks for tuning into our semi-soccer related podcast.

We Regret to Inform You…We Are Live

Evan takes this episode’s title to new levels of self deprecation as we take on a new endeavor: ripping on Cincy while live and in color. Some soccer friends join/correct us in the live chat as we explore the new world of allocation money and designated player in The USL. More topics include the latest battles over division 3 & 4 soccer in small, yet strong soccer towns as well as a break down of the week’s games.

You Play We Don’t: Andrew Weber

Evan gets to sit down and chat with North American Soccer journeyman, Andrew Weber. Formerly of the Trois-Rivieres Attak as well as FC Phoenix and Timbers 2 of the USL, Andrew has seen American soccer blossom from a pretty unique perspective. We also talk about the USA 6v6 World Cup squad, of which he will be the goalkeeper for come September. Definitely some challenges involved with that and Andrew was more than happy to share some of what the training has been like for a pretty unique opportunity.

Special thanks to our friends @TeamUSA6v6 and @SportingAZFC for putting this all together.

You Play We Don’t: Sam Doerr

Evan gets to sit down with Phoenix Rising FC’s VP of Marketing (and just about everything else apparently) Sam Doerr! Sam made some noise earlier this week with the idea of a USL All Star game and he runs down what that would look like and how it might happen sooner than later. Evan also picks his brain a bit about how he got into the league as well as some of the ups and downs of bringing soccer to Scottsdale.

Go check out all things Phoenix Rising over at phxrisingfc.sportngin.com as well as @PHXRisingFC on Twitter.

Midseason Shenanigans

Pony, Kev, Ryan and Evan break down a pretty big week in USL action. Tampa and Louisville are on a skid while Reno and Charleston are quietly going about their business to some pretty positive results. We also break down the mid-season fan vote awards for goalkeeper, coach and MVP of the halfway mark of the season. Vegas shenanigans and some drawn out potential all star game scenarios are also on tap this week, so give it a listen?

We’re back!

Evan sits down with Goose from Talkin Jacks, Dan from Unused Subs and Mark from Back Chat to look back on some of the big story lines of the last week or so and give some ideas for a few things that aren’t quite up to par so far this year.  Together they discuss:

* James O’Connor and Leigh Cowlishaw’s coaching moves

* Does the USL really need managers?

* Toronto FC II’s move to USL D3 and what we want that D3 league to look like

* Commentating and Officiating woes.
