The Vampire Bat (1933) is a creepy little pre-Code public domain horror gem set in a fog-drenched European village where people are mysteriously dying with all the blood drained from their bodies. Lionel Atwill as the brilliant but unhinged Dr. von Niemann, while Fay Wray and Melvyn Douglas play the young couple caught in the middle of the terror. Shadowy cinematography, eerie laboratory sets, and a cool sense of dread that still works today.
Though it’s a low-budget B-movie, The Vampire Bat is well worth watching for anyone who loves early 1930's horror.
