From the Egyptian soul that must survive judgment, to the Greek discovery of the inner, rational soul, to the Hebrew self in relationship with God, this episode traces the evolution of what it means to be human and various ways different ancient Western societies have understood their own identities. 

In this episode, we discuss the origins of the spiritual notions of the "Self" across early Shamanic, Hindu, Buddhist, and Taoist philosophies, how they influence and relate to each other, and how this concept is contrasted among each of them.
