Today we hit 60 degrees under sunshine — 22 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. Tuesday cranks it even higher. Central Vermont reaches 63. Southern areas hit 59. The northeast tops out at 60. These are near-record temperatures for March 9th.

Tonight stays mild. Lows drop to 31 in the northeast, 37 down south, 38 in central areas. You won't need the heavy blanket.

Then Wednesday flips the script. Rain moves in — heavy at times — with highs still in the 50s. A quarter to half inch falls during the day. Wednesday night brings another half to three-quarters of an inch. That's when the real show starts.

Thursday morning a cold front crashes through like an uninvited guest. Rain changes to snow as temperatures nosedive 30 degrees in hours. Highs struggle to reach the low 40s before plummeting to the teens Thursday night. Wind chills drop to 15 below zero. That's the kind of cold that bites.

Central Vermont hits 60. Northeast Kingdom reaches 57. That's 22 degrees warmer than normal — the kind of heat that gets sap flowing in the sugar maples.

But here's the catch. Southwest winds pick up, gusting to 26 miles an hour in the south and 33 through central areas. The breeze takes a little edge off, but you'll still be ditching the heavy coat.

Tonight stays mild. Lows only drop to the mid to upper 30s under mostly clear skies. Light winds keep things comfortable.

Tuesday doubles down. Sunshine returns with highs climbing even higher — 59 south, 63 central, 60 northeast. Light winds make it feel like a perfect spring preview.

Southern Vermont woke up foggy with a brief rain chance wrapping up by 10 A.M. Highs near 45 degrees, but the real story is the wind — gusts hitting 29 miles an hour out of the west. Tonight drops to 33.

Central Vermont gets the best of it today. Mostly sunny skies, highs near 54. And lighter winds around 9 miles an hour with gusts to 26. Tonight falls to 35 under clear skies.

Northeast Vermont sees a quick rain shower possible before 1 P.M., then sunshine takes over. Highs near 51 with southwest winds 7 to 13 miles an hour. Tonight's low around 29.
