The world uses “love” as a term to describe how we feel about everything from food to TV shows to other people. In this context, love is conditional; our feelings of love change based on circumstances and what we think about these circumstances. They are often feelings of lust, desiring after a person based on physical attraction. The love that Jesus has for us, that he showed us on the cross, is never-failing. This unconditional love is what we strive to show those around us.

Remember your baptism: it gives you power from God to say no to sin and yes to righteousness, a power to do what is right in the face of the pressure to be quiet or to do wrong. Baptism brings us our identity. Critics, culture, past sins, age, illness, job, etc. don’t define you; God does!

Have you every been lost? There’s physically lost – like when you wander around a foreign place, and then there’s spiritually lost. When we forget about the Resurrection, we’re right there with the Disciples – lost, hopeless, wandering. But Jesus is alive. And that changes everything.

“It is finished.” These last words of Jesus are about more than the end of his life on earth. This sentence means that Jesus gave up his life for you. Although he was perfect, he suffered death for your sins. You could never sacrifice enough to pay for your sins, but Jesus paid the debt in your place.

We put in a ton of effort worrying about having the things we need. Whether these “needs” are actually survival requirements or things we just think we have to have, we forget the fact that the Giver of all things knows our needs. God has already taken care of the only thing we truly need: forgiveness.
