The Imbumba Foundation’s Caring4Girls Programme was founded in response to the harsh reality that millions of girls in South Africa miss a significant number of school days and others drop out completely, due to lack of access to adequate sanitary protection and corresponding reproductive health education. The programme aims to give a voice to young girls, instill dignity and foster confidence. Caring4Girls, has over the last decade, taken a three-prong programmatic approach to supporting girls:

· Creating and promoting menstrual health, hygiene and puberty education.

· Providing menstrual hygiene products to vulnerable and indigent girls.

· Leading government policy and advocacy.

The Annual Katlehong Athletics Club’s School Shoe Run will be held on the 31st of December.Members of the running club will embark on a 31km run as part of their school shoe collection drive.

Shoes are symbolic of pride and give confidence to young learners knowing that they can walk to school in comfort, as opposed to barefoot. Shoes are also a vital protection barrier between our children’s tiny soles and Africa’s rough and unforgiving terrain.

They believe that a new pair of shoes should be tough enough to protect a young child’s feet whether it be on the playground, on the sports field or even walking home in the middle of winter.

Lisa Vetten has worked in the field of violence against women for almost 30 years, first as a counsellor and paralegal, and then as a researcher, activist and occasional drafter of policy. She is currently a Mellon Doctoral candidate at the Wits City Institute. Her PhD seeks to provide a critical history of rape in South Africa.

Lisa has been immersed in the field of violence against women in so many different roles that it has given an unusual depth and scope to her understanding of social attitudes towards violence in general — and the many forms of violence against women in particular

Life in the legal industry can be challenging - long hours, a competitive environment, an intense workload and pressure to meet billing targets can all contribute to stress and mental health issues. These various factors lead to legal practitioners' depression and breakdowns at work and at home, compounded by legal practitioners' inability to identify when they need to take a mental break from work or in a particular case. Another is the roles they often find themselves trusted with like being mediators and lay psychologists to their clients while chasing proverbial lines.

Mental health issues among lawyers are notoriously prevalent and legal wellness or lawyer well-being needs to be an essential consideration for law firms, law schools, bar associations, and legal professionals. Although many “wellness” resources and programs are available, many do not focus on the legal industry’s unique challenges. We discuss these mental health challenges and how organisations such as the Law Society of South Africa assist legal professionals.
