    Dead Heat

Today is gonna be a record breaking day of temperatures across the UK
All the record temperatures that have ever been recorded in the UK...

it's heating up here in Switzerland. And of course, it is incredible they have record breaking temperatures for the UK. For the very first time on record temperatures in the UK have exceeded 40 degrees.

This is crazy and strangely enough, today's expression dead heat or a dead heat because it's a noun has nothing to do with the warm weather.

A dead heat is when there is no single winner. Two or more participants tie for first place.

So, for example, the horse race finished in a dead heat.

Meaning both horses were in the finishing line at the same time?

Colorado is in a dead heat. That's where Donald trump is campaigning today. Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, is in a fight for Ohio where Trump has a slight lead she's there having gotten an assist from LeBron James who endorsed her over the weekend.

Is that clear to you? So by the way I am Daniel. I am the Vocab Man. And welcome back to this episode.

If it is too difficult for you to understand every single word.

    Oh, don't worry, man.

You can just take a look at the transcript which i provide on The Vocab Man.

I am sweating so this is helping just a little bit.

And if you noticed, I have published several episodes recently. This might be stressful for you. So the heat is on. The situation has become more difficult because you need to learn more expressions. But, yeah, as I said, the heat is on, this is another excellent expression. The heat is on means when the heat is on a situation is becoming more difficult and busy.

And of course, guys, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Another great idiom. Which means that if you can't stand the pressure, if it is too much for you to listen to the Vocab Man and learn all the expression. So you just stop. So it is used. Um, someone is not good at dealing with a stressful situation.

After all said and done, I would say that all in all, I predict they're going to remain mostly in a dead heat.

Thank you for listening guys. I am the Vocab Man. Have a good one and keep it cool.

After all said and done, I would say that all in all, I predict they're going to remain mostly in a dead heat as they've been. And that's why I would call it a tie because I think we're gonna see maybe a bump in the polls for Trump. And then, you know, it might just level off again and be returned back to kind of a dead heat because it just, I don't know, man, maybe, maybe Trump will rise and, and like maintain a lead, but.

I don't think it's gonna be as much as I had initially thought it, it would've been. And if it does, it'll be because mostly of Bravado points, as I said, and not so much because he did such a fantastic job because I don't really think either of them did a fantastic job. They kinda sucked. It was, it was sort of a boring debate.

Daniel. I brought you a cool beer. That way you can cool off a bit.

Oh, thank you, Peter. This is awesome!

  • 88 GO-TO - What is your go-to podcast to improve your English?
    Transcript:

What is your go to podcast to improve your English?
    Video version: https://youtu.be/yCk6gxsGVAc

Today's expression is go-to. So in my case, my go-to podcast to improve my English. Is 📍 called.

The relatable voice podcast by Lucia Matuonto from Brazil. She is an excellent interviewer who interviews mainly authors. And they talk in a very friendly way as if they knew each other. And it's really great because lucia covers different topics from everyday life. And also we get to know the author better and also a little bit.

About the book that the author is writing.

And the reason why I find this an excellent podcast to learn English is because. The expressions that are used are very.

Formal and indeed you find them when you converse in a natural way. And what is your go-to podcast to improve your English. Tell me. And send me an email to My Fluent Podcast at gmail.com.

And what is your go-to healthy snack? Oh, ed, I always reach for Greek yogurt. Not only is there calcium for my bones, but there's twice as much protein for my muscles. Ah, cool. Hey guys. Be sure to catch Rebecca and chef Rob in action.

What is your go podcast to learn Spanish? Daniel,

So my go-to podcast to learn spanish Is Espanol con juan

hola, chicos, qué tal? Qué tal? Bienvenidos a español con Juan. Ya sabéis que este es un podcast en español para aprender español, eh? Yo soy Juan. Soy el creador de español con Juan

what is your go to language learning method? Daniel

what I really like is I interview other learners. I record it. Of course with the consent of the interviewee. And after that i pick up some expressions that i didn't know before and i learn them

    Are you serious?

Yeah, of course man, Peter. For example. My go-to. This expression came from an interview that I conducted with Vince from the Philippines. And I published it on episode 111. On my other show called My Fluent Podcast

But see for yourself and take 📍 a listen

One thing that I was dabbling on before was SRS space, repetition software, but, um, I kind

of dropped it. Do you use Anki?

Yeah. Yeah. I used to use Anki. That was my go to, but then, its been years since I've I've been doing it, so, uh, I just gave up on it and I probably should go back to it because I know that it helped me when I was a student, after a while I just, why I lost love, I had too many cards to to, to review because it was I I think I, and I also did not want to restart it cuz restarting it just lose every single one. But yeah I really should get back to it because that's how I learned.

He at one point and Kaji was man as you may know, Kanji characters, you have to learn more close to like more than 2,500 characters in order for you to be literate in Japanese, in written Japanese. Help, but then, but yeah, SRS would be something, but then I can't recommend it because I'm no longer doing it.

That was Vincent from the Philippines, which I interviewed on episode 111. So you won't believe me, but actually one of my go-to apps to remember vocabulary is actually anki which was mentioned in the audio clip. With vincent it's an excellent way because you can revise your words daily and you can store all your words there and yeah it's just an excellent way.

What is your go to cure for writers block? Um, write it as an email to a friend.

Now I am curious, Daniel, what is your go to cure for podcasters block?

Thank you Peter, for this question, this is actually a good way to wrap things up to end this episode. So when I am having a podcast block, what I do is I just stop. And then I listened to various podcasts. So did I. get inspired by others. And then I try to find some new ideas and implement them into my show. Right So thanks for listening guys this was The Vocab Man. Bye

Okay, Daniel. Thank you, Daniel. But I have to say that this was a strange episode of the Vocab man, Peter out.
