Ahma & Alan is a dramatic short film about a Taiwanese grandma (ahma) that has to travel from a rural town in central Taiwan to the capital city of Taipei to pull Alan, her American-born grandson, out of jail before he gets deported by a vindictive police officer.
Ahma & Alan tackles identity issues many Asian Americans and the Asian diaspora face: What world do we belong to? Asia or America? This film shows the generational and cultural loss that comes with immigration, particularly in the loss of one’s heritage language.
