In Acts 9, the most educated man in the room meets Jesus on the road to Damascus and comes away blind, humbled and completely changed. Raul and the crew talk about Saul’s head full of knowledge and heart empty of Jesus, why Jesus asked “Why are you persecuting me?”, and the quiet courage of Ananias, who was told “go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine” (Acts 9:15) and went. In Acts 8, Philip runs to a chariot on a desert road and tells a searching official the good news about Jesus. Caleb, Luke, Tyler and Raul talk about living in a way that makes people curious, and having an answer ready when they ask. They also share stories from a weekend of unplanned baptisms and look at Romans 10:14, the reason God keeps us here after we're saved. What does it actually look like to be rooted in Christ? Spirit Halloween opens in August, and the same argument opens with it. Raul, Luke, Tyler, and Caleb each handle trick-or-treating their own way at home, and they say why. From there they get into horror movies, crude comedies, drinking, and tattoos, with Paul's line from 1 Corinthians 10:23 sitting over the whole conversation: everything is lawful, and not everything builds people up. They talk about holding a conviction without hanging it on your brother, correcting a friend so he can hear it, and how much of this settles once you give your attention to your own walk with Jesus. Bruce brings 50 years of ministry to Veneration, and this fall he takes over life groups. He sits down with Luke and Tyler to answer what most people want to know: what happens in a life group, and what does it take to lead one? Tyler tells the story of the group he tried to talk his wife out of, the one that pointed him toward ministry. As we move into the serving stretch of our Abide journey, Raul, Caleb, Luke, and Tyler get honest about what it actually looks like to serve people outside the walls of a church building. From a driveway conversation with a man facing a terrible diagnosis, to a wife who quietly cared for a dying neighbor for months, the conversation lands on a hard truth: we have plenty of knowledge and not nearly enough action. "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." (Hebrews 13:16, ESV)
