"The Walking Therapist" A New Approach To Counselling with Amy de Nobriga

When I interviewed Amy de Nobriga it was very interesting. We spoke about all the great support she gives to people and how she discovered an unique way of therapy. I really enjoyed speaking with Amy. Amy de Nobriga from Toronto, Ontario has nearly 2 decades of experience in the field of social work with agencies, including Mount Sinai Hospital, SickKids Hospital, Humber River Hospital, The Children’s Aid Society, Interval House, The Good Shepherd, University of Guelph & York University at Osgoode Hall Law School. She has provided a wide range of therapeutic support to children, young adults, older adults, pregnant women, couples, and families. Amy worked with individuals struggling with guilt, shame, stress, substance use, self-harm, thoughts of suicide, anxiety, depression, postpartum depression, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, and psychosis. She has offered therapy to individuals experiencing trauma, crisis, abuse, sexual assault, struggling with a medical diagnosis, financial strain, relationship struggles, domestic violence, separation, divorce, end of life decisions and bereavement.
Amy continues to move forward with her career and she conducts research on the effects of art programs on children’s self-esteem and the effectiveness of the Partner Assault Response Program (PARS). She has been a guest lecturer for a CLASP seminar at Osgoode Hall Law School speaking about social work and the connection to the legal system. Amy is active in her community. Amy has received her master’s in social work from York University and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She has a certificate in Family Mediation from York University. As well as a variety of trainings in various therapy modalities: including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution-focused, Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness.
