Eight people (Ayanda Nxusani, Sesihle Manzini, Helene Visagie, Ashley Visagie, Wendy Lewin, Gillian Barlow, Lana Franks and Thandi Gamedze) who have been on a journey of collaboratively and reflectively reading Emmanuel Katongole's book, The Sacrifice of Africa: A Political Theology for Africa, got together to record a conversation to reflect on their journey through part one of the book, exploring what it might mean for the story of Christianity in our context.

In this episode, we chat to Ntando Mlambo and Caroline Powell -- both of whom are doing really interesting and important research into the topic of church land and spatial justice -- about spatial justice and how the church can engage and participate in this conversation in order to create spaces and cities that are more just and inclusive.

The Warehouse coordinates a network of church and faith-based organisation partners called RESPOND in responding to disasters largely local to Cape Town but increasingly further afield. In this episode we chat to Lester Cedras and Craig Stewart, who both play significant roles in the work of RESPOND, to unpack and engage with some of the dynamics in moments of disaster, some of the larger stories and realities in which disasters take place, as well as how the church can respond in ways that embody justice and dignity for all involved.

This book uses the methodology of pilgrimage to deepen engagement with scripture through reading it in particular geographical spaces with diverse groups of people. It encourages an exploration of the Bible in conversation with both the historical and contemporary contexts, in order to help us live more faithfully as those trying to follow the way of Jesus.
