Wednesday Wisdom! “Faith doesn’t eliminate disagreement or magically remove tension. Instead, it transforms how we hold those things. When our focus is outward, we stop asking, “Who’s right?” and start asking, “How do I love well here?”” David Petrash Today’s guest, David Petrash, is a submariner, pastor, businessman, and water-treatment professional whose life bridges faith, service, and leadership. Drawing from his unique background - from submarine hulls to the pulpit and the boardroom - David writes with both authority and compassion, inspiring readers to live with faith, courage, and purpose. He is also the author of “The Ripple of Faith” As a culture, we talk often about how what we do ripples outward and impacts far more people than we may ever know or meet personally. Whether it is our decisions, our words, our posture – everything we think, do and say ripples outward and we may never know the effect we’ve had on someone else. Over the years, David has come to believe this simple truth: the strength of the ripple is determined by the direction of our focus .He shared this example with me in an off air conversation. “Imagine ten people standing together, holding hands in a circle. This circle represents how most of us naturally come to life - and honestly, how we often come to our relationships and even our faith. We’re facing inward. Our focus is inward. And because of that, we tend to see and respond to everything from that inward position. It’s from this focus that we see: • Our responsibilities • Our pressures • Our risks • Our investments • Our families • Our expectations • Our relationships and our faith. And when something feels uncertain, when change feels uncomfortable, or when circumstances don’t land the way we hoped, our first thought - often without even realizing it - is, How does this affect me? We get stuck on what I like to call the “Me Mountain”. And when that happens, the ripple gets smaller. Keeping the same circle, let’s turn our backs to one another and interlock our elbows. Take a moment and notice what’s changed. You didn’t leave the circle. You didn’t lose your place. You didn’t stop being who you are. The only thing that changed was your focus. Now, instead of looking inward, we’re looking outward. We begin to understand how our ripples can either help or harm, strengthen or hinder one another. And here’s the key thought: A ripple can only move outward if our focus does. And the question quietly changes. Instead of asking, “How does this affect me?” We begin to ask, “How does this affect us?” This isn’t just a life principle. It’s a faith principle. Scripture calls us to value others above ourselves - not because we don’t matter, but because love requires vision beyond our own position. Philippians 2:3 (ERV) “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” This and more insights from David are all in our great conversation today. Join us!
