Martyn Clark has worked with senior executives, across many of the largest corporations: Citizens, Jones Lang Lasalle, Sodexo, Royal Bank of Scotland, Zurich Insurance, Santander, Accenture, Ernst & Young, Johnson & Johnson. What he saw was a harsh reality: that the legal foundations of our organizations are riddled with greed and self-interest, and as a result, these organizations often neglect the needs of employees and people. In response, Martyn wrote a book on the topic: Love Incorporated. In this episode, we discuss what's wrong with how corporations operate, along with what changes need to be put in place in the interest of people.

  • 24) A Digital View

Thanks to digital art we can create some of the most realistic and creative work to date. Colors can be composed exactly how the user wants, and the world you imagine can look as real as the world we're in. Thomas Tanner has been creating digital art for a long time and has become one of the names to contact when you want/need work done. Particularly in the dungeons and dragons' "fantasy realism" world, he has been drawing and creating since he was a child. His work is clear and fascinating and if you'd like to see some of it go to his website below.

  • 21) In the Venezuelan Coup (2002)

Christina Hoag has a long history in the world of Journalism. While traveling the world, she ended up living in Venezuela and was lucky enough to become one of the few journalists present during the 2002 Venezuelan coup. This is especially special when you realize the airports were closed down during this less than a week ordeal. Chavez was temporarily overthrown and this reporter has the inside scoop of what actually happened in Venezuela leading up to this event.

*Footnote from Christina: “I misstated the year of Hugo Chavez’s death in the podcast. I checked afterward and he died in 2013.”

**Footnote from a listener: It was never officially confirmed what side the snipers were a part of.

  • 19) Men Walking Hungry

Eating Disorders are a dangerous thing. While it depends on how you categorize the statistics if you google "deadliest mental illness" eating disorders are ranked first. Roughly 70 million people worldwide are affected by this illness and just about all researchers agree this is an understatement. Although the people affected by this disorder are primarily women, what people may not hear or realize is that this disorder also affects a large population of men.

I sat down with journalist Ruben de Theije, who recently finished his award-winning book A Stroy to Tell. In this story, he - along with his photographer Mafalda Rakos - followed men protagonist who talked about the struggles and 'life or death' situations they faced over this illness. We discussed his findings and what makes this topic such a unique issue.

Warning: Vicki Lau was an excellent guest who I was honored to have appear on the show. However, when recording out of the studio, audio mistakes sometimes happen. In this case, I made a mistake and the audio wasn't as clear as other episodes. A lot of post-editing work went into fixing the episode and I hope you're able to enjoy this episode all the same.
