TALK ABOUT IT:
1. Icebreaker: What is your favorite sort of competition? What draws out your competitive side? If you’re not competitive - why do you think that is?
2. Read Philippians 3:13-14 and 1 Corinthians 9:23-25 and discuss; Why would God frame the reality of human spiritual experience with the metaphor of a competition or a race?
3. Read Genesis 14:8-16 & discuss; how do motivation and preparation affect your willingness and ability to go after something worthwhile? Share about a way your preparation or motivation allowed you to run after something that was right.
4. Read Genesis 14:14 again and discuss; mobilization and bold action are part of the pathway to victory; why are these two elements of success so difficult? Share about how you’ve seen or personally experienced the benefits of mobilization and bold action on the way to a win.
5. Read Genesis 14:15 , Psalm 18:29 , & Proverbs 24:6 and discuss; why do audacity and strategy and a willingness to maximize need to be part of the pathway to victory? Share about a time in your life when some audacity and strategy helped you get ahead.
6. Read Genesis 14:16 and discuss; Why is it so important to finish what you started? How have you seen the benefit of completion and goal satisfaction?
7. Read Genesis 14:17-20 , Deuteronomy 8:18 , & Proverbs 21:31 and discuss; Why is it right to demonstrate your devotion to God when you win? What are the benefits of giving recognition in real time to God, even in the form of tithes?
8. Read Hebrews 7:16-17, Hebrews 7:24 and 1 Corinthians 15:54-56 and discuss; How does the ultimate victory of Jesus affect your life?
