Less gripping, while still getting the most out of everything we want to do.
More space. More room to move.
A conversation about the limbo of life — and what happens when we loosen up a little or a lot.
How low can you go? 10x more? 100x more?

Please enjoy at your leisure! And now… off to watch the women’s Round of 32 at the Ericeira Pro. 🤙
We’ve been thinking a lot about community.
Because somehow, in a world where we can communicate with anyone, anywhere, at any time…so much of the world seems to be sensing a lot of overwhelm & defaulting to opting out (even if that means saying hello to a stranger).
What’s that all about?
In this episode, we talk about the changing ways we communicate and connect, what community can look like now, and the fact that there really isn’t ONE WAY to do it.
Maybe community is a little bit of a lost art.
Maybe we’ve forgotten that it takes participation.
And maybe we don’t all need to be the host, the organizer, or the person bringing everyone together. We all have a part to play.
Because at the end of the day, community is critical.
It nourishes us. It connects us. And we need each other.
This week on THE WAY WE LIVE, we're joined by our first guest: Surprise Maphumulo.
Born and raised in Durban, Surprise has risen from local surf prodigy to competing on the World Surf League Qualifying Series. But this conversation isn't all about surfing.
We talk about disappointment, courage, community, timing, trust, and the fear of both success and failure. We explore what it means to follow an unconventional path and the people who help hold us through the inevitable highs and lows along the way.
Grab a coffee and join us for the conversation.
From ferry rides across the bay to morning ocean swims in Cape Town — we share how our daily rhythms changed as we shaped & reshaped them.
Spoiler: work-life balance isn’t a destination. It’s tracing paper — constantly asking, “what life do I actually want to build?”
Ever feel like you’re supposed to work yourself to death for 40 years so you can finally enjoy life at 65?
We unpack the “work till you drop” mentality, why busyness became a badge of honor, and how we’ve tried (messily) to prioritize play, connection, and actually being alive. We explore how childhood mantras shape our adult choices, why societal safety nets don’t always catch us, and what it means to opt for a few detours off the straight road to retirement (or nowhere?)
We finally hit record.
This has been a long time coming — and honestly, a bit of a crash course in recording, editing, and figuring it out as we go… but today’s the day. We’re dropping.
This first episode is Living as Expats — raising kids across cultures, building a life abroad, and figuring it out as we go.
We’re dropping three episodes to kick things off — dive in.
