The adults and kids connect at the Starcourt Mall and devise a plan on how to take out the Mind Flayer and close the gate. Joyce is finally able to turn the keys and destroy the machine, but Hopper then vanishes without a trace and Billy sacrifices himself to the Mind Flayer just before it collapses. Three years into the future, El is still without her powers and moving away with the Byers. And everyone is trying to deal with the aftermath of this new shared trauma.

Thanksgiving becomes Truth Day as Ross and Monica unload each other’s secrets to their parents and Rachel makes a trifle that does not taste good. Then Janine invites Joey to a filming of Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve where Ross and Monica tag along and do their 8th grade dance routine. And in the end, Janine kisses Joey.
