Hey everyone~it’s Chelsea! I started watched Chihaya furu and got about seven or eight episodes in before deciding it’s not really for me. The concept is unique and focused around karuta, a Japanese card game. I also started watching Ahiru no sora (basketball anime) and I really like it. I was reluctant to watch it because I thought it would be too similar to Kuroko no Basket, but it is a fresh, new take. There are more girls in Ahiru no sora and more in-depth characters. I especially like Kite, or Tobi. He’s so cool and I like his hair. But characters like Aomine in Kuroko no Basket will always hold a special place in my heart. I can’t decide which anime is better. Maybeeee Ahiru no sora just because I’ve seen it most recently. I try not to insult any works or put others down because I know an immense amount of effort and hard work goes into each anime or manga.

I’ve been listening to some kpop like fromis9 and Iz*one, but also chinese pop from WayV. Their comeback is pretty good. They’re all awesome, but I especially like Lucas and Ten and Winwin. like the member that is not Korean or only half Korean, and I really like unique faces. For example, in EXO, my biases used to be Luhan and Kris, both Chinese, and in GOT7, Mark, who’s Taiwanese, was my fave. In TXT, I really like Huening Kai (휴닝카이) who is half German and half Korean according to Kprofiles. But my preference always changes as I get to know the members better.

I especially like self-help and advice podcasts, and I aspire to always know more about how other people think, what motivates them, and how to help people. I recently tried a dating app social experiment. What I discovered really surprised me. What do men prefer? Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, or the girl next door?

Hey everyone~it’s Chelsea! I’ve been binge watching Studio Ghibli movies on HBO Max in my free time. My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Spirited Away. My favorite Studio Ghibli movie is Howl’s Moving Castle. The music and scenery are always so beautiful in these movies. I always want to eat anime food. These movies are like my escape from the real world...I’ve been pretty busy with work. I recently moved back to the West Coast...Lots of emails and online meetings.

I’m worried I’m going to gain weight because I eat a lot of snacks when I’m stressed. My favorite snacks are plantain chips, popcorn, and Hot Cheetos. My favorite comfort meal is a mix of rice, sesame oil fried egg, spam, and steak with kimchi. If you’re from Hawaii or you’re Asian, you might like this too. It might sound gross, but I promise it’s absolutely delicious. I would rather eat this than a five-star meal, which some people may think is strange, but I’m a simple person. I kind of want to do mukbangs, or eating live, in the future. But who knows...

In my free time, I’ve also been watching some anime like Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun. It’s about a high school boy who writes and draws shoujo manga, and a girl who likes him and helps him out. The ending song is so cute. I had to download it. The song title is in Japanese so you’ll have to look it up if you’re interested!

Some Kpop groups, songs, music videos, and dances I’ve been listening to and watching are BTS “On”, EXO Baekhyun’s “Candy”, Seventeen, Twice, Blackpink, Mamamoo, NCT, Itzy, Oh My Girl’s new song is a bop...Everglow, Ateez, definitely check them out if you don’t know them. I also miss old groups like Girls’ Generation and Big Bang. Feel free to leave me song recommendations on my Apple podcasts page or Anchor page. I always love interacting with listeners.

I also like watching Youtube compilations of funny anime scenes and couples. Yoshi Senpai has some really good, funny ones. Do you guys want me to make longer podcasts? These breathing techniques were inspired by Shallon Lester. Please slowly breathe in through your nose, hold for three to five seconds, and then breathe out through your mouth. I’m going to be doing it a few times. *breathing* *breathing* *breathing*

Hey everyone~it’s Chelsea! Welcome to another podcast on “The Weeb Heartbeat”.

Today I’m going to be discussing what anime world I would want to live in. Although I’m obsessed with Hunter x Hunter, I don’t think I could actually become a Hunter and I don’t like chimera ants so I’ll have to pass on that one. I would love to be friends with Gon and Killua if I was the same age, but I don’t think they like girls that much considering their interactions with Bisky Kruger. Also, I like the Phantom Troupe such as Hisoka, Chrollo, and Feitan because I don’t actually deal with them in real life. They’re probably really horrible in real life.

In Black Clover, The Clover Kingdom has too much of a caste system and I don’t want to be relegated to the peasant class with zero to little magic. I would choose Harry Potter over The Clover Kingdom woops. The anime Tower of God seems too rough. I don’t want to climb the tower or be some King’s princess. I also don’t want to die and deal with talking alligators.

I don’t want to live in One Punch Man’s world even though Saitama’s awesome. Hmm...I think living in Naruto or Boruto’s world would be pretty cool. I’m physically fit and can do an okay amount of push-ups so maybe I could build up to Sakura’s level. I’ve listed five animes and only like one of the world’s so far...OOH I would live in Avatar The Last Airbender’s world as a firebender or waterbender. That seems really awesome. Fire, Water, Earth, Air. Unfortunately, I didn’t like Legend of Korra that much. Hmm..I would definitely live in a Pokemon, Yugioh, or Digimon world. I’m kind of constructing a list as we speak. This is a huge throwback, but I remember thinking the Tegami Bachi, Letter Bee world, was really cool. One of my guy friends wants to live in the Elfen Lied world.

I would definitely live in most real world anime’s world. I would love to work for Victor or nice Yuri in Yuri on Ice, Akihiko Usami of Junjou---, or someone in Dakaichi. If I could BE an anime character, I would want to be either Nana from the anime Nana. They’re both so beautiful and I’m hoping to fix what happened at the end of the anime. If I could be Haruhi in Ouran High School Host Club, I would really love that as well. The twins, Tamaki, Kyouya, Mori-senpai, all so lovable. Fruits Basket is pretty awesome too. And adorable.

After considering all these different animes, my top three list is Avatar The Last Airbender and not the blue people, Pokemon, and then Digimon, but I would love to live the lives of any of the aforementioned.

Hey everyone~it’s Chelsea! Welcome to another podcast on “The Weeb Heartbeat”.

Today I’m going to be discussing YAOI, which is pretty controversial and if I have any heterosexual male listeners, you probably don’t want to hear about this, but who knows? My top three favorites are Yuri on Ice, Junjo Romantica, and Dakaichi. Hunter x Hunter has subtle vibes from Hisoka and Illumi, but definitely not as blatant and obvious as the three aforementioned, otherwise it would be number one. Super Lovers and OPM Puri Puri Prisoner did not make the cut, but are still loved. I hate to admit it, but I guess I’m a mild Fujoshi.

Number three on my list is Dakaichi. It’s about the veteran actor and most desirable bachelor for 5 years in a row, Takato Saijyo, and the up and coming actor who recently dethroned him, Junta Azumaya. The two most desirable bachelors in a scandal. Exciting!!! There are WAyyy too many cute scenes. You might get a nosebleed. In America, it would be like Harry Styles and Noah Centineo or Harry Styles and Brandon Urie. This is actually a really horrible comparison so never mind. Issajoke. Please don’t sue me.

Number 2 is Junjou---, which follows the story of three couples, but Misaki Takahashi and Akihiko Usami are at the forefront of the anime. This couple is like those korean dramas, or kdramas, where a chaebol rich guy falls in love with a poor girl who’s bad at school except Misaki is a boy and Usami is a wealthy author. Still, Usami comes from a prestigious family and has basically everything; a red sports car, lots of toys, lots of fun. The anime has gotten a bad rap on other podcasts, but I really like it. I think it’s really humorous. You might not like it because Usami can be jealous and aggressive, but some people think that’s hot AKA MOIII.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE NUMBER ONE IS Yuri On Ice. YOI is a sports-genre anime that follows the 23 year old Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki after he returns home from a crushing defeat in the Grand Prix Final and other competition losses. However, he perfectly mimics an advanced skating routine by his skating idol, Victor Nikiforov...I CANNOT PRONOUNCE HIS LAST NAME. A video of Yuri’s performance goes viral on Youtube and catches Victor’s attention, who decides to coach Yuri and revive his skating career. They mayyyy begin to fall in love and...you’ll have to watch to find out more! The art is 10 out of 10 and breathtakingly beautiful. The skating routines and their costumes will make your little weeb hearts go doki-doki. I especially love underdog-success stories like this one. It’s also why I like Naruto and Tower of God. I think this was one of my first YAO animes so it’s a dangerous gateway one haha.

EP 3: Hey everyone~it’s Chelsea! Welcome to another podcast on “The Weeb Heartbeat”.

Today I’m going to be discussing Black Clover and why I think it’s very similar to other shounen such as Tower of God and Hunter x Hunter, possibly even copying some aspects directly. Upon further research, I also found a few discussion posts directly comparing Black Clover to Naruto and Bleach. I think I’ve become one of those conspiracy theory-esque people. Send help.

I watched the first 50 episodes of Black Clover about a week ago and then I binged the first nine episodes of Tower of God shortly after. While watching Tower of God, I thought that Tower of God had copied Yoru’s uniform from the Black Bulls’ uniform in Black Clover, but upon further investigation, I discovered that Tower of God was originally written in 2010 while Black Clover was first published in 2015, five years later. Oh and by the way, Yoru is the Japanese translation of the main character’s name, Night, which is Bam in Korean. I didn’t read the Korean webtoon so I thought his name was BAAAMM based on the Crunchyroll translations haha.

Not only is Aster’s outfit very similar to Yoru’s because of the black cloak with yellow monogramming and their headbands, but the main characters both wield swords. I Googled this and did not find any leads, but I stumbled upon people who claimed that Black Clover copied Bleach especially with the sword fighting and teams system. My theory is still mainly about how Black Clover is similar to Tower of God and Hunter x Hunter. The Clover Kingdom has magical power called mana similar to the magical power in the Tower called Shinsa. The main characters of Black Clover and Tower of God both pine after unattainable loves such as Yoru pining after Rachel and Aster pining after Sister Lily. But this could also be me just trying to frantically draw parallels. Some people say that Big Bang Theory is too similar to Friends. Some people say it’s not too similar.

Also, old shounen vs new shounen often overlap. The friend dynamics and eccentric characters are often similar and a common theme. The oddball Black Bulls Team is like the Tower of God oddballs like the oddballs in My Hero Academia or One Piece or Hunter x Hunter. Everyone should know by now how much I love Hunter x Hunter. THIS IS A CLOVER SPOILER so watch out. There’s someone who acts as Aster’s mentor and teacher named Fanzell Kruger similar to Biscuit or Bisky Kruger, Gon’s mentor, in Hunter x Hunter. He’s like a normal looking version of Hisoka. At first, I thought one of the girls in Tower of God, Anak, looked like a mix of Killua’s little sister Kalluto and Zazan. Then I was starting to think that Yoru and Khun looked just like Gon and Killua. I’m obsessed with Hunter x Hunter. Sorry not sorry.

Hey everyone~it’s Chelsea! Welcome to another podcast on “The Weeb Heartbeat”.

Today I’m going to be discussing all the anime I’ve been able to binge during quarantine. Before quarantine, I would consider myself an anime fan, but not super hardcore, as I was busy with schoolwork. In case you didn’t know, I’m a college student with lots of classes. But during quarantine, I’ve reverted back to my obsessive middle school and high school days.

I finished watching all of One Punch Man back in March. I can’t believe I never saw it before. Saitama is awesome. Who do you think would win in a fight? Saitama or Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter? I’m not 100% sure. What about Saitama vs Chrollo from Hunter x Hunter? I think Chrollo might win if he takes Saitama’s one punch ability, but I’m not sure again. I mean...Saitama was able to single handedly take care of a meteor. A FRICKIN METEOR!

Another anime I started watching is Black Clover. I’m 58 episodes in, but I’ve hit a plateau. I’m seeing too many comparisons to other animes like Tower of God and Bleach. I would compare the main character Aster to Naruto in that Aster wants to become the Wizard King to prove that orphans and the poor can achieve anything while Naruto wants to become Hokage and is also an orphan. It’s really exciting and fun.

Another anime I started is Dr. Stone, the first episode was promising. Watched part of the anime No Game No Life, but I don’t really like the brotherly love relationship and fanservice with Steph makes me slightly uncomfortable. Watched Season 1 of Castlevania and part of Season 2 and that’s good. Need to finish it….It’s about Dracula and what would happen if he had a wife and son in a world where the Church is absolute. Medieval Europe.

I think I have ADHD sometimes. It’s a huge surprise and miracle that I was able to finish all of Attack on Titan in a weekend. Oh and I did the same with My Hero Academia. I guess it also shows how much I loved them because I’ll show you how terrible my attention span is. I’ve seen one episode of Cells at Work!, one episode of Jojo, one episode of Full Metal, one episode of Haikyuu, one episode of Ajin, a few episodes of Baki, one episode of Blue Exorcist...I am the worst at finding something I like and then committing. Will definitely be picking these all up at some point if I can stop rewatching The Last Airbender and scenes from Hunter x Hunter. I NEED to know who Gon’s mother is before I die. There are so many good conspiracy theories about the whole show.

I’m only about fifty episodes into One Piece and Bleach, but it’s been so long that I probably need to rewatch them from the beginning. Seen a few episodes of Katekyo Hitman Reborn, FairyTail, there are way too many long, good animes. But then again, I’ve seen Nana and Paradise Kiss at least seven times each. They’re josei and about relationships if that’s not your thing or is your thing....one of the best things about Nana is the friendships and music. Ugh I love “A Little Pain” by Olivia Lufkin.

I like watching animes with people, but either my friends get ahead or I get ahead or we just drop it. Watched half of Fire Force with a friend. Watched two episode of Overlord. You see my predicament?
