Birmingham’s Jimmie Hale Mission has helped restore and transform thousands who have suffered from homelessness and addiction. The Christian-based, nonprofit organization includes a homeless shelter for men, a shelter for women and children and various other programs.

Recently, the Mission announced a new chapter in its ministry, expanding beyond rescue to now include recovery.

While there’s not a right or wrong option, the congregation at Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery is settling nicely into its now three-year routine of small-scale home groups meeting on Sunday nights for fellowship and sermon application.

The Summit of Fort Payne offers a 12-month, faith-based intensive recovery for women who are addicted—and in many cases have been incarcerated— to overcome destructive choices and behaviors.

Along with intensive discipleship training, The Summit offers women opportunities such as help completing their GED, a variety of college prep classes, learning life-coping skills, and tips for personal finance and budgeting. Nutrition and exercise classes also are part of the curriculum.
