The Weekly Strange

Dive into the terrifying true story of Anneliese Michel, the young German woman whose 1970s ordeal became the chilling, documented basis for the film The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Over ten grueling months, Anneliese endured a shocking 67 exorcism rites performed by two priests, Fathers Alt and Renz. The most visceral evidence came from the 42 audio tapes recorded during these sessions, which captured guttural, non-human voices claiming to be entities like Lucifer, Cain, and Judas Iscariot. Jon analyzes the specific, terrifying sample exchanges heard on the tapes and track Anneliese's catastrophic physical decline, which led to her death at age 23 from malnutrition and dehydration. This is a sober, factual look at a case that remains a solemn warning about the true cost of alleged possession.

In October 2025 English Heritage, the organization preserving England's most historic sites, released a collection of paranormal reports, including a chilling incident documented at the nearly 1,000-year-old Chester Castle. Jon delves into the report of a mysterious, indistinct figure—described as "faceless"—walking precisely where the castle's medieval gatehouse once stood. This is the only known footage of the mysterious entity that terrified the investigating security guard and, notably, caused his large, trained dog to cower and refuse to leave the vehicle. This incident, combined with numerous other unexplained sightings from Bolsover Castle and Belsay Hall, raises some fascinating questions.

Dive deep beneath the sands of Egypt's Giza Plateau to uncover a profound mystery that could rewrite the history of ancient civilization. Jon explores the fascinating claims surrounding the rediscovery of three highly engineered vertical shafts positioned in alignment with the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, suggesting that the Giza monuments are merely the surface entrance to a vast, deliberately planned underground world. Learn about the cosmic blueprint theory, which proposes that the shafts and the pyramids mirror the stars of Orion's Belt, and consider the potential purpose of this complex, whether it was for ritual, water management, or storing sacred artifacts. This is the evidence for the Giza Underworld, a lost city waiting to be explored.

Tonight, we dive into the chilling story of the Amomongo, the terrifying cryptid known as the "Philippines Bigfoot" or "Philippine Gorilla." This creature isn't a shy, gentle giant; it's a documented threat with a gruesome preference for livestock entrails and a record of attacking people. Journey with me to the remote region of La Castellana at the base of the active Mount Kanlaon on Negros Island. I'll explore the creature's lore, its shocking description (a hairy white ape with long, sharp nails), and the intense fear it brought to the local community - especially when in 2008 it attacked two villagers Salvador Aguilar and Elias Galvez, who were left with serious scratches and injuries after direct confrontations with the creature. This is the incident that turned a local legend into a global cryptozoology mystery, prompting an official response from the town's mayor. What is the Amomongo? An undiscovered primate, a feral ape, or something much darker lurking in the Filipino jungle?

In 1892, in the quiet, rural town of Exeter, Rhode Island, the Brown family was systematically decimated by tuberculosis. But the community didn't blame a germ; they blamed the undead. This episode dives into the true story of Mercy Lena Brown, the 19-year-old woman who became the unwilling subject of America's last documented "vampire cure" ritual. Jon looks at the historical facts, the devastating medical reality of consumption in the 19th century, and the desperate folk beliefs that drove a father to exhume his daughter. This is not a ghost story, but a profound and heartbreaking look at the intersection of ignorance, mass hysteria, and disease in American history.

In September 2025, a startling event took place just outside Rome: the 15th International Gathering of the International Association of Exorcists (IAE). This is the factual, institutional reality behind the horror movie trope. I'll break down why 300 Catholic priests from around the world convened to discuss the 'delicate and necessary ministry' of exorcism. I reveal the Church’s rigorous diagnostic process for possession, the chilling criteria used to identify genuine cases, and the documented global surge—particularly in places like Italy—that necessitates these conferences. I also look at the direct, official endorsement from Pope Leo XIV. This is the 21st-century battle against spiritual evil, sanctioned by the Vatican, and it is far more real than you think.
