  • Episode 197: How to Stop Overcomplicating Weight Loss

It's 5pm on a Thursday, everyone is hungry, and you're standing in the kitchen trying to figure out what's for dinner with almost nothing left in the tank. So it's frozen pizza, DoorDash, or the leftover cheeseburger from the kids' bag on the way home from practice. In this episode, I'm sharing the simple shift I teach my clients that makes healthy eating feel so much easier: making your food decisions ahead of time, and then just following through.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    • Why deciding what to eat at mealtime means deciding from your most tired, overwhelmed, lowest-capacity self
    • How the flight, fawn, and freeze responses show up in your kitchen at dinnertime
    • Why "I can't stay consistent" is usually a decision problem, not a willpower problem
    • How I plan, shop, and prep for my week, including my midweek mini prep for lunches
    • How to change your plans without feeling like you failed, by asking yourself if you love your reason
    • The hidden energy cost of negotiating with yourself about food all day long
    • Why more recipes, more options, and more information usually lead to less action
    • How following through on your own decisions builds real self trust

  • Episode 196: How Do I Know If I’m Eating Too Little or Too Much?

You're eating what feels like it should be enough, maybe even too little, and nothing is changing. Then you hear that midlife women need to eat more, so you try it, the scale creeps up, and you're right back to wondering what the right answer even is. In this episode, I'm showing you why "how much should I eat?" is actually the second question, and why the first one, what am I eating, is what moves the needle for your energy, cravings, digestion, and the scale.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    • Why "am I eating too much or too little?" is the wrong place to start, and the question that should come first
    • How a day of protein coffee, shakes, and quick snacks can hit your protein goal and still leave you under-nourished
    • Why you're wandering back into the pantry at 8pm, and what your cravings are really telling you
    • How hunger, cravings, energy, digestion, and sleep are your body's way of communicating with you
    • Why processed foods make it so hard to tell nourishment from reward (and why eating them is never a moral failure)
    • How inflammation shows up on the scale, and why the number you see isn't only body fat
    • Where tracking fits in, and why food quality always comes before calories and macros

    TIMESTAMPS:

06:43 — Your body needs more than protein
08:42 — Hunger, cravings, and energy as communication
10:57 — Processed foods, dopamine, and the environment we live in

  • 195: The Two Reasons You Can't Get the Workout Done

You keep seeing posts telling you to lift weights in midlife, and you want to, but you're tired, run down, and your body keeps finding new ways to feel terrible. So how do you know whether your body needs support or your brain is trying to avoid something uncomfortable? In this episode, I'm breaking down the two very different reasons you might not be getting to your workouts, why they feel identical from the inside, and how to tell which one you're dealing with so you can stop guessing and start doing what actually helps.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    • Why an energy problem and a resistance problem feel the same in the moment, and why they need completely different solutions
    • Why workouts sit above sleep, nourishment, and safety in the hierarchy of needs, and what has to be filled in first
    • The question I ask clients about how they feel two to four hours after a workout, and what it tells me about whether it's time for labs
    • Why an iron supplement isn't always the whole story, and what to look at when your body isn't absorbing what it needs
    • What a loving push looks like, and why it's never mean girl energy
    • Why motivation is not a data point, and which data points you can actually trust
    • Why the answer is never zero workouts or six workouts a week, and why recovery is part of how progress happens

    TIMESTAMPS:

00:01 — The question that inspired this episode
02:17 — Two reasons you can't get yourself to work out
05:02 — Client one: when exhaustion is a real energy problem
07:16 — Why sleep and nourishment come before workouts
10:33 — The two to four hour test
12:40 — Why an iron supplement isn't the whole story
14:29 — Client two: when it's resistance and you need a loving push
18:42 — Why you can't wait for motivation to show up
19:51 — Is your body asking you to stop or is your brain avoiding discomfort?
21:57 — Why you can't build muscle without fueling and recovery
22:38 — Sitting with resistance and trusting the long game

  • 194: You Don't Need More to Do, You Need Support

How many articles have you read, supplements have you tried, and protocols have you been handed, only to still feel stuck in your body? In this episode, I'm breaking down why knowing what to do has never actually been your problem, and why the real gap is between receiving information and being held inside a process built to create your results.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    ● Why you already know more about health than you ever have, and why that hasn't fixed anything ● The real difference between being handed a plan and being held inside a results container ● The hidden cognitive and emotional load of managing your own health on top of everything else you carry ● Why self love isn't the reward for changing your body, it's the starting position you take action from ● The one question to ask yourself before choosing your next action ● What it actually means to be held in a container built for results instead of thrown back into your life with a list

In this episode, I'm sharing the full replay of my Midlife Weight Loss Masterclass, where I walk you through exactly why "eating less and trying harder" stops working in midlife, what your body actually needs instead, and how to finally get a body that responds again, with or without a GLP-1.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

  • 192: Is It Your Gut? Why You're Bloated, Tired, and Not Losing Weight

You're eating the healthy meal. Protein, rice, vegetables, healthy fats, all the things. And an hour later you're unbuttoning your pants because your belly has expanded like you're four months along. In this episode, I'm breaking down why your bloating, your fatigue, and your stalled scale aren't three separate problems. They're one problem, and it starts with digestion.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    • Why a healthy body should be able to tolerate the occasional pizza night without days of discomfort, and what it means if yours can't
    • The simple push test that tells you whether what you're feeling is bloating or body fat
    • Why digestion takes real energy, and how a struggling gut leaves you with less capacity to be consistent with anything else
    • Why hormones are downstream of digestion, and why fixing the gut has to come before we ever touch hormones
    • What actually happens to your hormones when your stool sits too long, and why that's one of the most common reasons for hormonal imbalance
    • Why GLP-1 users need to prioritize digestion even more, and how doing so improves the results of the medication itself
    • The solve, nourish, sustain order I use with every client, and why skipping straight to "just be consistent" sets you up to fail

  • 191: Are Your Hormones Why You Can't Lose Weight?

You've said it yourself, probably more than once: "I think it's my hormones." Your period is wonky, your cravings feel uncontrollable, the scale won't budge no matter what you do, and you lose your shit every month before your period starts. In this episode, I'm breaking down why that phrase has become a crutch, and what your hormones are actually trying to tell you when they create these symptoms.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    • Why "it's my hormones" keeps you stuck in confusion instead of getting you real answers
    • What your hormones are actually responding to (hint: it's not bad luck, and it's not just being 42)
    • The real reason skipping breakfast or undereating earlier in the day backfires on your metabolism
    • How cortisol gets aimed at the wrong problem when your body thinks food is scarce
    • Why your cravings, wonky periods, and restless sleep are all the same problem showing up five different ways
    • The simple daily eating structure that tells your body it's safe to burn fat instead of store it
    • What "optimal protein" actually means, and why more isn't automatically better
    • Why the healthy-looking protein bars and pre-made shakes in your pantry might not be helping you

    TIMESTAMPS:

00:01 — Welcome back and a back-to-school life update 02:28 — Your hormones don't exist separately from how you're nourishing your body 04:51 — Why our medical system isn't built to teach nutrition or hold you accountable 06:07 — The vicious cycle of confusion, outsourcing, and superficial results 08:30 — "Your hormones aren't the problem, they're responding to being undernourished" 10:51 — What your hormones are actually responding to (it's not just calories) 13:08 — How cortisol solves the wrong problem when food feels scarce 15:12 — How this shows up as cravings, wonky periods, PMS, and restless sleep 17:35 — Why simply thinking about your food ahead of time changes everything 18:52 — What "optimal protein" really means and why blood sugar balance matters more than the number 19:44 — Redefining your ideal body weight (it's not a number from your past) 22:05 — Why nourishment, not medication or supplements, is the real path to safety

  • 190: A GLP Is Neither Mandatory Nor Magic

"I just need a GLP." Or on the flip side: "I'm on a GLP, so I don't need to learn how to eat." Both of those beliefs will keep you stuck and keep getting you the same result over and over again. In this episode, I'm breaking down why a GLP is neither mandatory nor magic, what actually happens inside your body when you use one without the right skills, and the one thing you have to learn whether you're on the medication or not: how to eat for the body you have right now.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    • Why "I think a GLP is my only option" is a red flag thought, and the completely different result that comes from deciding to use one responsibly
    • What actually happens when you start a GLP with the same habits, same stress, and same day-to-day life you had before
    • Why hair loss, hormone crashes, sleepless nights, and muscle loss are not side effects of the medication itself, and what they're really telling you
    • The band-aid vs. tool question every woman on a GLP needs to answer honestly
    • Why the food noise comes back louder than ever when you taper without ever learning the skills
    • How midlife changes the picture: what declining estrogen and inconsistent ovulation mean for your resilience, recovery, and why fueling your body matters more now than ever
    • My gas stove vs. electric stove analogy for understanding what a GLP actually does (and doesn't do)
    • Why the "Wild West" of online GLP prescribing means you have to be responsible for knowing your dose, your provider, and what you're actually taking
    • What changes for the women who do this work: the shift from hoping for the best to living for the best

  • 189: Why Stress Keeps Weight on Your Body

You can do everything right on paper — track perfectly, cut the calories, white-knuckle your way through the week — and your body will still hold onto weight if your nervous system doesn't feel safe. In this episode, the final S in the SUCCESS method, we're talking about stress. Because safety gets decided in your body before your brain ever gets a say, and when your nervous system perceives danger, willpower and discipline become nearly impossible. I'm walking you through why this shows up hardest in the evenings, what's really happening when you reach for the Cheez-Its in the car, and the one tool that shifts your nervous system more than any breath work class ever will.

This is the last episode of the 6S method series. If you're just joining, go back through the previous episodes where I cover each of the S's and the whole weight loss resistance series.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    • Why "stress" and "nervous system dysregulation" are the same thing — and why the label matters less than what it's doing to your body
    • How safety gets decided in your body before your brain gets a say, and why that makes willpower feel impossible
    • Why dysregulation shows up hardest in the evenings, when your capacity is lowest
    • The classic dysregulation pattern: undereating all day, then munching your way through the evening on comfort food
    • My definition of stress: too much energy going out, not enough coming in — and why dieting always reads as stressful to the body
    • How you can be in a calorie deficit and still have your body feel safer than before
    • What chronic stress does to your hormones — cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone — and why that leaves you exhausted and unable to build muscle
    • Why breath work, meditation, and journaling are tools to feel regulation, not long-term fixes on their own
    • Why awareness is the single most effective nervous system practice
    • Why strategic nutrition is still the one thing that helps your body feel safe most consistently
    • How stress is actually the S you have the most control over

    TIMESTAMPS:

    • 00:00 Welcome back — the final S in the SUCCESS method
    • 00:30 Why I use "stress" and "nervous system dysregulation" interchangeably
    • 01:30 How stress connects to your body feeling safe or unsafe
    • 03:41 Why willpower becomes impossible when your nervous system feels unsafe
    • 04:35 Why dysregulation hits hardest in the evenings
    • 05:30 The Cheez-Its-in-the-car pattern, explained
    • 07:00 The classic cycle: undereating by day, munching by night
    • 10:00 My definition of stress: energy in vs. energy out

    THE TAKEAWAY:

Every S in the SUCCESS method feeds one thing: your nervous system's perception of safety. Stress isn't the S that takes control over you — it's the one you have the most control over, because it becomes manageable when you give your body what it needs. So much of the stress we carry comes from living out of alignment with who we actually are: saying yes when we mean no, performing wellness instead of being well. When your body feels safe, it stops holding onto body fat. It really is that simple.

GET ON THE WELL NOURISHED WAITLIST:

Everything in this series comes together inside Well Nourished, my six-month body recomposition program. We take all six S's and build them into your actual life — with coaching, personalized plans, and awareness work so your body finally feels safe enough to let go. We stop performing wellness and actually become well.

Enrollment opens in September, and the waitlist is open right now. Get your name on it, and you'll be able to schedule a consultation right away so you know exactly what the timeline looks like and how to come in fully ready:

  • 188: Sleep is When You Shift Body Fat: The Sleep S of 6S Method

You can fall asleep fast, exhausted the second your head hits the pillow, and still be wide awake by 2am with your mind racing and no idea why. Maybe you're waking up drenched in sweat, assuming it's a hot flash, when it's actually something else entirely. In this episode, I'm breaking down the fifth S in the 6S Method, Sleep, and why it might be the missing piece even when you're doing everything else right.

    IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:

    • Why all six S's work like an overflowing bucket, and why sleep can undo every other piece of the puzzle
    • My own story of waking up drenched in sweat at 2-4am for months, and what was actually causing it
    • Why night sweats don't always mean hot flashes, and how poor detoxification can show up as sweating at night
    • How a dysregulated nervous system keeps you "sleeping with one eye open," even after eight hours in bed
    • Why blood sugar instability during the day causes cortisol to wake you up at night
    • The role progesterone and GABA play in falling asleep and staying asleep, and why that changes in midlife
    • Why sleep is when your body actually burns body fat, and what happens when you don't get enough of it
    • The circadian rhythm basics that set the stage for better sleep, starting with how you wake up in the morning
