Robyn is a three time cancer survivor, most recently diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. Robyn had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction with silicone breast implants which caused an array of debilitating health issues. Robyn had her breast implants removed just after four months and all of her symptoms completely resolved. This experience led Robyn to become an advocate for raising awareness about breast implant safety and proper informed consent.

 

Robyn has shared her testimony twice at the FDA in Washington D.C., and became the co-founder of Global Patient Advocacy Coalition (GPAC) and she is an administrator in various online support groups for women who are suffering from Breast Implant Illness. Collaborative efforts with industry and medical societies have led to progress in finding solutions for increasing awareness and patient safety. Robyn has worked extensively with Arizona legislators in passing an informed consent law for breast implant surgery and their GPAC team is currently working on similar legislation in several other states. 

 

Today Robyn is a Patient Advocate, believing that every patient should be given the opportunity to make an informed and educated decision regarding breast implants and every patient deserves to have all of the information prior to having surgery.

Those moments where you are grateful you didn’t sacrifice an important priority for yourself, in order to do something work-related (even if it was a BIG opportunity!). Establishing solid boundaries to prioritizing yourself and honouring your needs first is pivotal for every successful entrepreneur and business owner. Your time is so valuable! For me, completing my morning practices of gratitude, prayers, affirmations, meditation, journaling AND moving my body first thing every day is non-negotiable. I share a real example of why trading your priorities isn’t servicing you.

Vanessa Ford is an award-winning film/tv producer, scientist, entrepreneur, and general badass.

While earning a Masters of Tropical Medicine/Global Health from Oxford University and working part-time as a model, Vanessa got her start in the film industry by producing a documentary on HIV/AIDS in Kenya and a Discovery Channel docu-series traveling in Africa with the sons of Bob Marley to explore their heritage and roots.  She then went on to Hollywood, working as a producer for The Weinstein Company and a part of releasing a string of critically acclaimed films with Quentin Tarantino and Stephen Frears.

Vanessa is currently the Chief Brand Officer of female-led entertainment startup Kukua and executive producer of their first African kid superhero series, Super Sema, starring and co-executive produced by Oscar and Emmy-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o. The NAACP-nominated YouTube Originals series has attracted over 100 million views worldwide and follows the adventures of an extraordinary African girl who uses her STEAM superpowers to save her village from an evil AI tyrant. The franchise has expanded to toys, books, and consumer products to inspire kids to STEAM and to be changemakers like Sema.

Ford's work has been lauded and featured by the industries she operates in; including being featured on the covers of Forbes Africa #1 Most Influential Entrepreneur Making a Difference) (2022) and Canadian Business'S Top Canadian Entrepreneur to Watch (2022) as well as Bloomberg, Washington Post, Variety, Essence, People Magazine, Apple's App Store, CNN, and other international publications.  

As a leader in diverse storytelling and an advocate for BIPOC girls to gain STEAM skills, she delivered the keynote at the largest tech conference in North America, Web Summit's Collision 2022 and has been invited to speak at Harvard University's African Summit in 2023. 

All of that said, she counts her highest achievement as being mother to her three children-- Rio, Easton and Monroe-- and is a proud Jamaican.
