I’m not one of those Q-Anon nutjobs or anything… but I do occasionally… like to debate the merits of a conspiracy theory.
And I want to put one out there… about our illustrious Premier… Mark McGowan.
OK… so as you probably know… the Premier has been over in Sydney… giving evidence… in the Clive Palmer defamation trial.
And you probably also know that… before he went… Marky Mark made the bizarre announcement… that he was going to do…. a week of hotel quarantine… even though he doesn’t have to.
Under the chief… health officer’s… guidelines… The Premier can come back into WA… without having to quarantine at all.
Let alone do it in a hotel… at his own expense.
The Premier said he was doing it… to prove he wasn’t above anyone else… when it came to having to put up… with COVID restrictions.
So he was trying to appease… all the critics… who’d had a crack at him… for his hard border rules.
As I’ve previously said on this show… that argument doesn’t really hold any water…. Because those critics… don’t give a rat’s clacker… if MCGowan spends a week in a hotel room,… on his Pat Malone.
But if that doesn’t explain why he’s doing it… what does?
Well, that’s where the conspiracy theory comes in.
So… McGowan would have known for some time… that the defamation trial in Sydney… was going to dredge up some embarrassing text messages… that were sent between the Premier and Attorney General John Quigley.
The Premier also sent some messages to Kerry Stokes, executive chairman of Seven Group Holdings… the owner of Seven West Media and my boss… about legislation BEFORE it was introduced into Parliament.
Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson was grilled about the text messages… at a press conference yesterday… and said the Premier had the utmost integrity… and that consulting with the community and business sector… was part of the job of governing.
She found it a bit harder to defend McGowan calling Clive fat.
But here’s the thing to think about… it was Sanderson who had to do the defending…. Because McGowan was in Sydney.
So, what will happen when the Premier gets back… Oh, that’s right… he goes straight into that weird… self-imposed quarantine… where he won’t have to front the media… for a whole week.
Given the fact he knew those text messages… would come up in court…Geez… I wonder if that’s a coincidence!
A more cynical person than me… might even suggest…. that yesterday’s move to high caseload settings… Was also a little coincidental.
It certainly took the attention away…. from the embarrassing testimony in Sydney.
And maybe it was just a coincidence… but the Government has created this environment… where conspiracy theories can exist… through its lack of transparency… on COVID decision making.
Was yesterday’s decision… triggered by daily case numbers… hospitalisations… or a need to shift the public’s attention away from McGowan’s embarrassment?
