Chances are that, if you're thinking about trying Savage Worlds or are playing it today, you've either started with or just came from D&D.

I've met so many people over the years of playing Savage Worlds who fit that profile. Most of them were in their 40's or 50's juggling with raising a family and having a career. Some of them were getting back into the hobby, others felt Savage Worlds fit their busy lifestyle better.

My co-host Gary sure fits the profile, but because he tends to ramble on and because I felt we needed more voices added to this conversation, I invited two role-players like you; John Steve and Rafael Figueroa. Together we talked about the journey from D&D to Savage Worlds. Why? What were the challenges? How did it change your gaming experience?

At the end of the Middle Ages, the Plague of the Dead has spread through Europe, Africa and Asia giving rise to the darkest time in history. Ultima Forsan is a setting for Savage Worlds that takes place during a zombie apocalypse in the Renaissance with clockpunk technology. Or as I like to call it, Leonardo DaVinci zombie hunter.

I got together with Bill Lear, Manuel Sambs and Matt Stark to play this incredibly deadly and fun game called Ultima Forsan from GG Studio in Italy. It takes place in an alternate Renaissance during a zombie apocalypse.

If you ever thought Savage Worlds is too kind on players and not gritty enough, please listen to this. Edited by the one and only Harrison, this is full of sound effects and ambiance music. Famous Italian Savage Worlds writers even make appearances as NPCs.

• Ultima Forsan

This actual-play episode has special meaning to Eric, but especially to Harrison.

A few months ago, Harrison and Nikk came up with this idea after reading Fuhgeddaboudit! by Just Insert Imagination. It took place in London and involved pub-going Brits getting in trouble with the local gangsters. Morne and Eric really liked the idea, and thought it had a lot of potential.

Eric then invited Harrison to write Aliens vs Redneck with him so he could get familiar with the Plug & Play format. Working with Harrison was fantastic and he took Aliens vs Rednecks to another level. Just Insert Imagination immediately commissioned Punted in the Bonce from him.

That said, Harrison got together with Peter Beckett, Sean Hunt and James Clarke to play this adventure. This is what happened...

We put together this panel of veteran game masters to discuss the use of battle maps or theater of the mind in Savage Worlds games. Eli Kurtz from the Mythic Gazetteer, Frank Turfler from Middle Kingdoms Adventure & Trading Co., and Ron Blessing of Smiling Jacks Bar & Grill fame got together with Gary and Eric to share which method they prefer and why.

Some tough questions were asked, new techniques were shared and, as always, laughs were had.

Nikk is a total zombie fanboy and produced this show where we look at running a zombie campaign from many different angles, share our experiences with the genre and brainstorm some ideas to kickstart your own zombie survival campaign.

• Ultima Forsan

In this episode we bring back the Plog and talk about the campaigns we've been running. Gary is running the Flood for Deadlands, Harrison is also running Deadlands, but his own material, and Eric talks about Savage Warhammer and how he turned a campaign module for Warhammer 2nd edition into a plot point campaign.
