September 06, 2018 Box Office Summer 2018 Review "The Big Got Bigger, and a Return to Form"
I walk through the summer month by month. The big stories are familiar. Comic book movies and sequels rule the roost. Only 1 movie in the top 10 of the Summer was totally original content, and it opened in April (A Quiet Place). The biggest flop was of course Solo, but most of the underperforming films were mid-tier films, which further highlights the expanding gap between huge tentpole films and the rest. STX had 4 mid-tier bombs and nothing else to show for this summer. Their days maybe numbered as their fellow upstart Global Road files for bankruptcy this week.

Overall, it was a solid summer especially compared to last year's dismal summer. It is adding to an already strong year at the box office. We have had a record breaking February, April, and June this year. But can Autumn and the Holidays keep it up. I have my doubts.

August 08, 2018 Thoughts on the Collapse of MoviePass and the future of the Movie Theater Business
It has been a crazy ride for the last year with MoviePass. As a MoviePass user before the price drop, it was pretty cool to see millions of people sign up. Unfortunately, the business model at the $10 price tag never really made business sense. MoviePass probably only has weeks to live, but I do think it completely changed how people think about going to the movies. That shift in consumer psychology will totally upend the current movie theater business model, for the better!
