  • Young Frankenstein Episode 101: All you need is love

We begin the minute with Inspector Kemp continuing his words from yesterday. He affirms the creature is in fact Frankenstein's monster. Peter Boyle finally gets a chance to speak and does he! He delivers a Shakespearean soliloquy for the angry mob, explaining who he had been and and who he is now. By the end of the speech, it seems he has won over both Inspector Kemp and the angry mob. In fact, by the end of the minute, Kemp tells everyone, based on the new information, that this is an entirely different situation.

Joining us today for his one minute and one minute only drum solo, our guest on the Wilder Ride is none other than the intern himself, Gerry Porter! Gerry is one of the hosts on the Indiana Jones Minute and thanks to his agreeing to be on our podcast, we have accomplished two things. One, getting the hat trick for having all three of the IJM hosts with us on the show. But, more importantly, we got Gerry to watch the film Young Frankenstein for the very first time in his life! If this does not prove our success, we don't know what will.

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 100: I am the monster

As we open the minute, the angry mob continues to storm through the castle. We are up against the clock with the transference. Inga and Igor keep looking at the time. The villagers, somehow find their way through to the secret laboratory. We discuss how they most have to go through Victor's old room, play with the rotating bookcase, make their way down the stair, through the dead heads before coming to the door. Inspector Kemp is once again used as a battering ram. With just three seconds left, the villagers destroy the equipment and we get another "zoom in post" on the stopped clock. As the villagers pick up the unconscious Dr. Frankenstein, his monster suddenly yells, "Put that man down." Inga quickly frees the monster who confronts Kemp. The Inspector demands to know who he thinks he is to order the good people about? In response, the creature yells, "I am the monster!"

And wrapping up the week with us as our guest on the Wilder Ride is once again, David Smith, a co-host on Airplane Minute.

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 99: Inspector Kemp battering ram

We continue today with Igor switching off all the controls to the laboratory equipment. One piece continues to fire until Igor comes down the stair and hits it. Then, he grabs what looks like test leads from a voltmeter and touches it to the metal salad bowl on Dr. Frankenstein's head. Even though we have been dealing with electricity once again, a close up of the doctor shows what looks like some liquid goop running through tubes. The tubes seem to be connected to a pump between him and is creature, who also wears a salad bowl on his head. Igor and Inga converse about the fact the transference should take 15 minutes; no more, no less. Outside the castle, Inspector Kemp becomes a battering ram, allowing the angry mob access to the castle. Before we conclude, we check in one last time with Malte Derks, our German counterpart to The Wilder Ride about the German words Kemp yells during the battering ram sequence.

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 98: Prepare for the transference

We continue today with the monster nearly cresting the edge of the wall. Dr. Frankenstein says the monster wants to do it for himself. We get a very odd look from the monster making us think he might be okay with a little help. He finally makes it over the wall, stands up and has one final look of pride before collapsing just as the doctor yells to catch him. They help the monster into the chair Igor had been using. Freddy asks if everything is ready and both Igor and Inga confirm they are all set for the transference. Then Igor asks his master if he is really set on going through with the procedure. The doctor says he is and when Igor reminds him he could die, Dr. Frankenstein misses a note on the violin. The scene wipes and we are in the secret laboratory. The doctor in strapped down on one table; the monster is on the other. Igor is above at the controls performing some kind of James Brown tribute before he yells, "Switching off!"

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 97: Rock climbing like Tom Cruise

Doctor Frankenstein, Igor and Inga are still on the stop wall of the castle, playing the Transylvanian lullaby. Igor finally gets to play the six notes he's been anxious to play. As the music continue, Inga finally sees the lumbering form of the monster. She cries that it's working, the music is working! Freddy continues to play the violin as the monster begins to rock climbing like Tom Cruise. Though we have some serious concerns with this minute, we still love the movie. By the time the monster reaches the top edge of the wall, Inga and Igor move to aid him. Dr. Frankenstein yells, "Don't touch him!" They both flinch and pull away.

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 96: Doctor Frankenstein's open mic night

We begin with Frankenstein's monster being lulled by the sound of music, pulling him away from Elizabeth. She first wonders where he is going and then makes a pronouncement about their evening. She says all men are all alike; after 7 or 8 quick ones, they're ready to go out and boast with the boys. She demands he keep his mouth shut about their evening. Then she admits she has fallen in love with him. We cut to the top of the wall of the castle where Dr. Frankenstein, Igor and Inga have setup an open mic night. Apparently, they have decided the best way to get control of the situation is to lure the monster back with the Transylvanian lullaby.

Joining for the very first time today as our guest on the Wilder Ride is David Smith, one of the hosts on, Airplane Minute.

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 95: When all else fails, just reverse the film

The minute continues with Elizabeth finishing her operatic joy in the embrace of the monster. We then cut to Inspector Kemp and the villagers continuing their search for the monster. We notice the Inspector points with the wrong arm and has his patch on the incorrect eye. In fact, his badge is on the wrong side of his uniform and even a villager is holding a rifle left-handed. It seems they had to reverse the film to make this scene work properly in terms of moving from right to left across the screen. We then return to the lair where the monster, seemingly no longer afraid of fire, has lit two cigarettes. He then gives one to Elizabeth. They are both quite content with each other. As Elizabeth cuddles up to the monster, asking a penny for his thoughts, he responds with a groan. She chastises him for being incorrigible and then admits seven is her lucky number. We end just as they are about to embrace again.

Joining us for one last day as our guest on the Wilder Ride is Pete Mummert, one of the hosts on the hugely popular, Indiana Jones Minute.

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 94: One uncomfortable minute at a time

Elizabeth opens the minute, questioning the monster about who he is and demands to know where she is. She tries to take control of the situation. She uses the same tactics she uses on Freddy to keep him in line. However, she has met her match since the monster does not answer her or answer to her. He only moans his responses. Once Elizabeth realizes what the monster intends, she tries to tell him about an important phone call she needs to answer. Once the monster reveals his enormous schwanzstucker, she cannot help but gasp and even calls out, "Woof!" When the monster takes her, she bellows out lines from the operetta, Naughty Marietta and we realize, even though this was one uncomfortable minute, we were able to get through it thanks to the genius of Madeline Kahn.

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 93: Why does no one know where to go in Transylvania

We continue today with Elizabeth singing the chorus to the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Suddenly, Frankenstein's monster is peering in from her balcony, looking more like Bela Lugosi's Dracula than the monster. After a scream, we get multiple shots of the angry mob seeming to be going in every direction except toward the castle. In fact, it even appears they start at the castle, then head to a rickety bridge, before sneaking into the woods. It's like no one knows where to go in Transylvania. We end the minute with Elizabeth waking up in a secret lair, with two white streaks down her hair. The monster is leering over her.

  • Young Frankenstein Episode 92: No Tongues

We continue with Elizabeth trying to keep Freddy under control. She realizes he need something to hold him at bay so she offers a kiss. Just as he is leaning in, she commands, "No tongues!" He pauses momentarily and then they kiss, but all the passion is gone. After kissing, he becomes somewhat passive-aggressive with her. He refuses to use his tongue at all, including answering her. His words come out as mumbles as he exits the room on his knees. We then discuss an interesting scene from the script with Inga, which is not the movie. We then close with the monster walking up the drive of the castle and Elizabeth singing a verse from the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
