These stories of the supernatural are so well-written that they pull you in right away after only a few words. They are old-fashioned, yet easy to read and very colorful and interesting. The characterizations are marvelous. These are the types of stories you look for to read on a stormy night.

these stories were lame and predictable and seemed as if churned out, trading on her good name. I love her other stories and looked forward to reading more of her work, but these were just dreadful.

Different from today's "supernatural" stories, but worth the read.

There was an old rose-bush...

It's always a nostalgic delight to read a piece from the past. That can easily be said of Mary Eleanor Wilkins Freeman's anthology. Whilst she was not the most prolific writer, she definitely stuck with her own style of strong-woman-rents-haunted-room-in-boarding-house. I recommend this to anyone who may be in between books and looking for something to fill a few hours on rainy night.
